David said "Loved it - amazing beef
Went there with the family of 8 people on a Sunday. The dishes were great. The rack of Angus beef for two was amazing. Well kept secret. Only thing was that the restaurant was empty so not the best atmosphere, we didn't mind, was a great place to spend with the family. Best part was the 50% of the food bill. "

George said "Honesty pays off
We went to this restaurant last night. We were the only people in the restaurant, but the environment was very pleasant. It was Monday night after all. We started off with chicken liver pate, which was good. We had a rib of beef for two to share as a main and for dessert we got banoffee pie. We also had a good bottle of wine. Everything was good apart from the steak. It was easy to chew, on the tasty side, however it was stale, lukewarm and dry. It was clear that it had been pre-cooked in the morning, possibly because the chef was not there with such a low turnout... I mentioned that to the waiter. I politely said that we were happy with all courses apart from the main, which was a bit dry, and was as if it had been pre-cooked. The answer that I received was the most disappointing part of our meal. He said that it was dry because it was rib-eye and that rib-eye is the worst of all cuts. He went on to rank the cuts by dryness and he said that the rib eye was the worst and followed by rump and then sirloin and then fillet... I was shocked by the answer. The reality of course is that the rib eye is the most moist, fatty and tasty part of the steak. I would have been much happier if I was told when I was making the booking that due to the low turnout there is not going to be a chef on site... Honesty pays off. Unfortunately, despite the pleasant environment, I am not planning to go back to the Montcalm. "

"Tried this restaurant using the tastecard last night as I wanted somewhere nice to take my parents and this had great reviews on other websites. If you're a meat lover this place is heaven - excellent food cooked to perfection, with an extensive wine list to accompany. Desserts also fantastic - the chocolate plate is the clear winner! Service absolutely excellent and a delightful restaurant manager. We would totally go back again. Carolyn "
