The Players Bar & Kitchen @ Charing Cross Theatre image

At the Players Bar and Kitchen, the head chef has created a delicious menu to suit all tastes and appetites. They look to deliver the perfect balance of mouth-watering food, great value and unpretentious friendly service.

Based in Villiers Street, just up from Embankment Station it’s the perfect place for pre theatre dining whether you are going to see a show in the Charing Cross Theatre or elsewhere in London’s Theatreland district.

They can cater for any occasion; be it a quick bite, a relaxed dinner, a birthday bash or just a catch up and a gossip over a glass of wine and some nibbles.

Please note: the tastecard discount is not available before 7.30pm, as the a la carte menu is not served before this time.

Recently went to The Players for dinner before going to see the show playing. Unfortunately, they were only offering the pre-theatre set menu when we were there, and this menu is not eligible for the tastecard discount. This was not made clear on the tastecard site, and we were disappointed not to be able to use our card. It's worth checking with the restaurant before making your booking.

That said, the food was gorgeous - lovely steak, beautifully cooked, and a delicious genuinely homemade meringue. Definitely worth a visit. Lovely staff. "

"Went for lunch here on Tuesday and the food and service was excellent. Relaxed and Classy without being pretentious. Bobby was an attentive waiter. I had the salmon - very good. My wife had the pork which was perfect. Highly recommend it. Paul "

"Can't praise this restaurant highly enough! We've eaten here 3 times. A limited menu but everything is freshly prepared. If you like burgers theirs is the best. Excellent for a pre-theatre meal, we use it before going to the National Theatre. Also staff very helpful. Lesley and Derek "

"We've eaten here twice now. Enjoyed the first meal so much we hurried back to make sure it was as good as we remembered. It was. Staff very friendly and food perfect. A hidden gem, I have no hesitation in recommending. Gail "

"First time at the Players Bar & Kitchen and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The food is well cooked and nicely presented (the haddock and chips has to get a special mention- light, crisp batter and the portion was huge). Prices are more than reasonable for a west end restaurant, but with the Tastecard offer, it's amazing value. Our waiter (Bobby) was friendly and down to earth- and nothing was too much trouble for him- qualities not often found in staff at other restaurants. If you want an unpretentious and relaxed evening this is the place to go. Malcolm "

"Tried this place yesterday (you don't have to be seeing a show at the theatre to eat in the restaurant) the food was marvellous, very cheap (even cheaper with TC!), 50% not 2-4-1 and ideally located for the West End. Underneath The Arches in fact, at Charing Cross. Check it out, worth a visit. (The Harissa chicken is gorgeous!) Very unpretentious, very airy and cool, and not at all rushed. Thomas "
