I was looking around for somewhere to eat locally and came across this place. To be honest we were a little unsure because it is part of a hotel. The setting is to be honest comfortable but un-prepossessing and even in the summer although there's a terrace the view from the window is whichever way you look at it basically a car park. On the plus side there's plenty of easy free parking, I think you'd be unlikely to seek this place out if you weren't driving or staying here for a specific reason.
The interior is also a bit out of date although the dining furniture is very comfortable.
My partner and I both had the same thing which was salmon fish-cakes as a starter followed by rib eye steak.
The prices reflect the quality of what's on offer, but the tastecard makes the price very competitive.
***The food was absolutely faultless ***. The fishcakes were packed with fresh perfectly cooked salmon, deep fried and served with pureed peas and a mustard dressing which worked well.
The steaks were properly matured, very tasty and served with chips and a side salad all of which were extremely good.
The menu includes a number of international options some of which seem a little incongruously arranged and that needs some thought. There isn't a vast choice but most will find something acceptable.
If you're looking for a romantic atmosphere or that wow factor to impress someone with then this isn't the right place, but if you want a reliable alternative to cooking from fresh at home when you can't be bothered then this really is worth a try, there is a chef who knows what he is doing here.
Service was polite and unobtrusive and we felt perfectly comfortable throughout the meal which we thoroughly enjoyed.
