2 for 1 at Gibson's at The Yacht London

Built in 1927, this permanently moored luxury steam Yacht has been restored to its former elegance and is now a Private Member Business and Dining Club.

Situated on what is known as the “Mayfair of the river”; a short distance from the Houses of Parliament and where the City meets the West End, it boasts magnificent views over the river Thames.

Many distinguished guests including Heads of State, Queen Elizabeth II, Sir Winston Churchill, King Faisal of Saudi Arabia, President Brezhnev of the USSR and Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto of Pakistan have been on board when it was used as a VIP vessel by the Port of London Authority. With some of the most glorious views in London spanning the River Thames, the Yacht offers a modern World class European menu and exceptional service.

The cuisine is complimented by an extensive wine list including excellent house wines. It can hold up to 60 diners, or 100 guests for a stand-up canapé reception.

Their motto: 'Floreat Imperii Portvs' or 'Let the Imperial Port Flourish', still stands proudly at the heart of the vessel.

" Our first visit for late Sunday lunch.
The food was excellent and the waiters very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We were the last there but didn't feel rushed.
A lovely place able to watch the river life go by was so relaxing. "

..its time out of life aboard the Yacht - the view is amazing, especially in the dark as the Southbank is lit up with so much colour and the Wheel towers over the buildings to the West.

There is plenty of space (privacy) between table; I've eaten there a few times and the food is consistently excellent, with a Specials menu often longer that the a la carte (Venison Medallions are excellent btw)

Downsides - it does rock a little more than a building might (tho nobody ever minds it), and the steps to the heads are a tad steep - but if you have any sailing in your blood this is luxury.

Best for a quiet date or a catch up with old friends where lack of interruption of conversation is key (a combination of considerate wating staff and gentle background noise - a real blessing post forty!)

I had my birthday there- it's become a place for good memories.
