In the evenings the New Steine Bistro transforms into a cosy Parisian restaurant, offering homemade French cuisine along with British fare. Surrounded by regular Art Exhibitions and mellow, chilled music, this boutique hotel is the perfect place to enjoy exquisite food in a welcoming environment.

One of my friends is a first class air hostess so knows how it should be done and they didn't let me down. The food was very very nice. We will be back for more. Great job.:-) "

    We went to this restaurant on the back of the reviews. We have our Fav' French restaurant in Eastbourne but the food here blew blew them away, seriously. Portion sizes were perfect, quality over quantity and intense flavours. No complaints, fab staff always smiling and there to attend when you needed them. My choice of Stuffed Guiney Fowl with Gratin Dauphinois was off the menu - replaced by tiny chicken breast with a bit of pesto inside and a minute portion of Gratin. Husband and son also disappointed with their expensive portion of a small fish fillet with a bit of rice. Full price apparently £14. Even at half that price they weren't good value for money. Certainly not worthy of their 5 star status "

I have now eaten there more than 5 or 6 times using the Tastecard & therefore introduced quite a few friends, all of whom have expressed the wish to return. It is small but not at all cramped & there is always a lovely, courteous, welcoming reception. Artwork on the walls has changed a couple of times in 12 months. Currently on display, & for sale, are works shown as part of the winter Open Houses.
    The staff are attentive, respectful & not at all intrusive. They are eager to please & happy to accept alterations to the dishes on offer for personal preference. All customers are greeted equally, whether as part of a group or dining alone. Importantly, the background music is exactly that, so it is possible to easily communicate although, when full, the volume of sound naturally increases.
    The mouthwateringly tempting menu provides an interesting selection of authentic french food & the specials board offers more variety for all courses. I have been accompanied by very satisfied vegetarians too because it seems it's possible to suit many dietary requirements. Despite not eating fish, I haven't yet had the same starter or main course. However, I find some of the desserts absolutely irrisistable, so it would be essential to complete a supreme dining experience with one of those even if it's necessary to share! I could not recommend more highly! "

I phoned ahead to book a table and enquirer as to the opening times. I was told 6:00pm but I said I was hoping to get an earlier time so as not to rush for the concert. The lady told me that they would open half hour early to accommodate us. That is good by any standards. We arrived about 10 minutes early and were shown straight to our table. It was warm and cosy and we felt relaxed. I made sure that I told the waitress I had a tastecard and she brought the a la carte menu. The choice was good and I had the snails in a mouth-watering pastry case with a beautifully seasoned cream sauce. My wife had smoked duck which was perfect. I had pork cheeks in red wine and my wife had the meat of the day which was tenderloin with sautéed vegetables. My pork came with the best crushed potatoes I have ever had. My wife's pork tenderloin melted in the mouth and the vegetables were fantastic. We both had the best crème brûlée this side of the Chanel. The service was lovely and the waitress knew the menu and answered any questions. The wait between courses was right and the waitress checked everything was okay several times. She even made sure we were not running late for our concert. I could not fault any aspect of the food or the service. If anyone has had problems before then this place certainly has learnt from them. I would gladly recommend this restraint to anyone. "
