Afternoon Tea @ The Tophams Hotel - Belgravia image

50% off at Afternoon Tea @ The Tophams Hotel - Belgravia

Tophams Hotel is one of the newest four star hotels in London, providing an oasis of style, comfort and peace in the heart of Belgravia. Belgravia itself is renowned for its grand terraces of white stucco houses and Tophams Hotel is no exception to this majestic architectural style. The surrounding streets transport you back to a more dignified time and it’s just a stone’s throw from Victoria Station, St James’s Park and Buckingham Palace.

There are some things that are quintessentially British and should be celebrated as such. These include: fish and chips, Joanna Lumley, the royal family and afternoon tea.

Afternoon Tea includes all the delicious finger foods you’d expect to tuck into, a sumptuous selection of cakes, pastries, freshly cut sandwiches and freshly baked scones served with glistening strawberry jam and Cornish clotted cream. And to wash it all down, the lovely people at Tophams Hotel are offering a crisp glass of bubbly and a wonderful selection of teas.

If you are considering coming here hoping to get the traditional afternoon tea experience save yourself the hassle and money and go somewhere else. The room was empty and quiet with the same 3 Avril Lavigne songs playing on repeat. The room was not your traditional afternoon tea setting and the chairs were tattered. Food portions were small and below average and the same person who was serving us was also vacuuming. I wouldn't pay more than £5 for this service. Pay the extra money and go to the Ritz and get a proper afternoon tea experience. "

We called ahead to book and arrived an hour later to an empty room. The waiter looked surprised to see us walk in. He took our taste card before we had ordered drinks.!!!! It was boiling hot, and that was before the disaster if the food! Eventually we were brought a few crusty sandwiches with 2 mr Kipling cakes! There were 6 of us! No tea was served and no scones.

When I complained only half the food was served we were told we had not given enough notice and the waiter had gone to but food!!!!

We left immediately and passed the waiter coming out if m&s with a bag if bread and cakes! Which they would have tried to charge an arm and a leg for.

We often fine at the Dorchester for afternoon tea so know what to expect but this was worse than mcdonalds!!

I think tastecard should not renew the contract next year as it was a disgrace!! "

I met a female friend here for afternoon tea one saturday and we had a really lovely time. Tea and a glass of champagne were given to us on arrival. My friend wanted an orange juice instead of tea which they provided free of charge. Food was lovely and presented as I expected for afternoon tea. Left feeling very happy and full! Great value "

" Please don't go! I took my Mum for her birthday, the 'bubbles' were Fizzy apple juice & Mr Kipling had clearly been to visit Tophams. The cakes were mass processed yuk... The cream for the scones seemed to have been watered down somewhat... All in all it was so awful we left without even finishing. We love afternoon tea this is a disgrace to describe what they offer as afternoon tea. Bottom line don't waste your time or money! "

My husband and I went here for our wedding anniversary today. We found it quite disconcerting that we received our bill before we had even received our first cup of tea!

The staff weren't particularly friendly and whilst we didn't have any problems whilst we were there, we could hear that another table were unhappy with something.

We had sandwiches that were cut long ways (getting 4 parts out of a sandwich) and had egg mayo, ham and cheese (couldn't taste the ham at all) and hummus and cucumber - nothing like they advertised on their menu on their website - no cream cheese or salmon, which was a little disappointing.

We also had a slice of carrot cake, 2x mini macaroons, 3x profiteroles and 3x mini brownies.

Their scones were the highlight (along with the freshly made assam tea (from Twinnings bags, not loose leaf) - which was bottomless) and clearly freshly made, although I was disappointed with the measly amount of strawberry jam that was given with it - one of those little jars you get on a breakfast table in a hotel, so nothing special either.

All in all, it was OK, but we've definitely had better, especially for the money. We find it hard to believe that anyone would pay full price for their afternoon tea. I don't think we'll be returning there. "
