2 for 1 at 23 Grosvenor Gardens

23 Grosvenor Gardens Wine Bar is a unique venue comprising of a ground floor bar with a garden room and half a dozen vaults spread out over the basement levels.

A decade ago, 23 Grosvenor Gardens was a bank and now it has been successfully turned into a fantastic place where guests can relax and socialise over a glass of wine.

If you are feeling peckish you can choose from the extensive menu which includes a variety of freshly prepared dishes.

The old vaults that existed under the bank and have been refurbished along with the entire underground storage which today leads to a garden room, to provide a unique dining experience that is hard to come by.

On Tuesday lunchtime, the place was very quiet so very poor atmosphere. There was just two of us eating; other people (about 10 were drinking coffee).

It was difficult to get hold of anyone to make a booking (I had to try three times and, before 11am, could only get an answer phone).

The place was cold because the doors were wide open to allow a delivery - who gets stuff delivered at lunchtime? When the delivery was over, the doors kept blowing open.

Food was OK, not great. Decor was nice and the seating was informal and comfortable. tastecard use was seamless.

Worth a try, but I won't be going back. "

I visited 23 Grosvenor Gardens as a pre-theatre dining experience. I had found this bar/restaurant on tastecard. They are quite tucked away and I probably would not have noticed them had I not found the deal online. I pre booked and had a little trouble communicating with the person who took the reservation as English did not seem to be their first language (although they were very friendly).

When we arrived, they had reserved 2 tables for us, one upstairs and one downstairs to give us a choice of where we would like to sit which we thought was very considerate. We elected to sit upstairs as the downstairs area was a little dark.

Food and drinks are ordered at the bar and we selected a nice bottle of Cote de Rhone with a cheese and a meat board. We had a little trouble when paying as we asked for our receipt and were told that they had already closed the order (even though we were still paying). The staff did however, eventually manage to print a receipt for us.

The food took around 5/10 minutes to arrive and there was a lovely selection of cheeses and meats, the portions were a little small and would have been a bit expensive if we had not used the tastecard but the quality of all food was lovely.

We would recommend 23 Grosvenor Gardens to others but would advise to use a tastecard or other discount card to bring the price down slightly. "
