Ok there weren't many people in the restaurant. But. Oak paneled walls. Moody music. Subdued lighting. Fantastic building. Atmosphere a plenty. Young but polite, efficient, inconspicuous staff. They didn't have the wine I chose but offered a more expensive replacement for the same price! On the whole a very pleasant experience and terrific 50% saving. Pub priced meal in classy restaurant. Saved £35.90 in total. Will definately return. Well done to all at Opulence tonight. "

Both my partner and I came to Derby for the weekend of Download festival. We thought we would give this restaurant a go but were a bit apprehensive given the critical reviews on here about the food etc.

However, the food was excellent. Although the portions were small, what was on the dish worked and was lovely. The simple choice of 6 dishes for starters, mains and deserts, was a great idea as I really struggle to pick from a vast menu of food.

I would suggest for anyone down this neck of the woods to give this place a go. We didn't have to book as it was very quiet, even for a Friday night. They really need to advertise the restaurant better! Really lovely evening and would definitely go again. "

    Amazing food and customer service.

A little on the pricey side, but the food is some of the best food I have ever eaten.

And the staff are so lovely and always do everything they can - amazing!

I think the restaurant could do with advertising themselves more as the place is usually very very empty though. "

We dine out lots, with and without Tastecard. We thought we would try Opulence so booked a table. The restaurant was nice and reminiscent of good hotel restaurants but there were not many people. We sat down to be given a menu which consisted of about 5 main courses (and similar starters/sweets)– I wanted the steak which (even though it was almost £19.00 so very expensive) The waiter told me they had no steak…what !, they only have 5 main courses items and they did not have any steak, – this is inexcusable. As nothing else on the menu had any appeal, we left without dining and went elsewhere.

The story continues, as we liked the ambiance of the place we went back the following week. It was the same menu and this time steak was available. It was good and the homemade chips were fantastic though b not many chips. I would not say the steak was worth the price, I have had better steaks in “2 for 1” pubs costing considerable less. My partner’s fish was nicely cooked and presented but again, not that inspiring. The starters were also quite nice but nothing to boast about, the sweets however were fantastic…or maybe I just like chocolate and there’s not much you can do wrong with it. The acid test is “would we go back” well, in a word yes, but only because the service from the front of house staff was excellent and with the 2 for 1 of Tastecard the cost is marginally acceptable – marginally!. But that said, there are restaurants that are much better in Derby and even without Tastecard offer far better value for money.

I would comment that with such a limited menu choice (which is not a problem) then food should be second to none – it isn’t and it’s not the best value for money. They need to improve the food, making it more inspiring and imaginative and they need to get real with their prices. I wait to see if they are still trading (as a restaurant) in 12 months. "

Awful. Just awful. Myself and my pregnant fiancee went on a tuesday night. Only 4 diners including us. Menu onky consisted of 5 starters and 5 mains so chose was very limited. Both had haddock fish cake to start which was ok but served on some very vinegary something or other. Steaks ordered were rare and medium and when they came out, the one was still mooing it was that rare (not even cooked to blue) and the other was only just rare (missis can't eat it that rare as pregnant). No sauce or anything to go with steak. Asked for no tomatoes and they both came out with tomatoes on. Lucky we weren't allergic to tomatoes!! And how they can even comprehend charging £18.95 for a steak is beyond me. Will never go back. Ever. Avoid Avoid Avoid "
