Stopped in on a Sunday with 2 adults and two kids. This is not a Tastecard day but was thinking if the food was good I will return during the week to use the card. Had two beef roasts at £11.95, 1 chicken roast at £10.95 and a hot dog with pulled pork at £8.95.
Firstly I would have complained if I was without the kids. We needed food, the kids were hungry so we eat and left.
The venue itself if quite bohemian and I initially could not work out why it was not busy on a Sunday with the menu they offered including the Sunday Roast. Then I got the food and for the money it was poor. I refer mainly to the roasts here and not the hot dog. The roasts consisted of 1 small piece of cauli, one small piece of broccoli (not even a floret) a few chopped carrots, a few potatotoes, yorkshire pud and meet. The veg, Yorkshire and potatoes were cold. The gravy was hot but did not warm the food. Portions were small. My 10 year old girl wafted the lot and I got a further dinner 2 hours later at my local pub. If it was £5.95 per roast I would have understood. But you can get better in nearly any pub for less. My local charges £8.95 and it is substantial. The food needs refinement and care. With a good roast dinner being served a reputation can be built and no doubt Sunday shoppers will come but with what was actually served it is hardly surprising nobody else was eating there. And reduce those prices for a Roast Dinner. I will pay if the quality is there like many others will.
If I eat during the week there is 50% of the food bill. I would say this would be about the right pricing with what I was served which was perfectly edible but just not good enough for the price.
