2 for 1 at Restaurant @ Skiddaw Hotel Keswick

Where better to dine in Keswick than at 31 The Square, the Skiddaw Hotel’s spacious, air-conditioned restaurant, situated in the heart of Keswick.

An oasis of calm, the discreet and stylish décor perfectly complements the delightful menu, prepared with loving care by the talented head chef and his team.

Recognised for their high standards of service and cuisine, dishes feature the ideal blend of contemporary and traditional, using fresh, local produce. The restaurant is also celebrated for its wide variety of fine wines and cheeses, particularly Skiddaw Damson Cheese, which is made especially for the hotel.

" Having visited both the restaurant and the bar at the Skiddaw Hotel on several occasions, I’m pleased to be able to recommend it for good quality food and a pleasant ambience. While we are not taking gourmet cuisine here, the fare offered is pleasing to the palate and the prices are reasonable. For our recent Christmas lunch, which cost £14.50 for two courses (plus fresh coffee with mince pies), we were offered the following choice:

Mains (served with potatoes and a selection of seasonal vegetables):
    • Roast Breast of Turkey
    • Grilled Trout Fillet
    • Slow-Roasted Rump of English Lamb
    • Spiced Butternut Squash & Winter Root Vegetable Casserole

    Desserts:
    • Traditional Plum Pudding
    • Chilled Fruit Parfait
    • Homemade Raspberry Cheesecake
    • Local farmhouse Cheese & Biscuits

Our party enjoyed both the turkey and the trout, although the person who had ordered the lamb found it far too fatty, so I’d suggest you lay off the lamb! Apart from one person who didn’t much care for the plum pudding, we liked our respective desserts (which covered the full range on offer).

I’ve also had some coffees and snacks in the spacious conservatory, which overlooks Keswick’s Market Square. With Skiddaw Hotel being situated right in the centre of Keswick, one can sit in the conservatory and observe the world go by. Very pleasant.
