After finding La Maison through the TasteCard App, we decided to drive the 20 miles over to Sale as the reviews seemed positive. The website was also very positive that they focussed on specials and "seasonal produce" and in a nut shell promoted their Daily Offerings that were freshly prepared by the Chef.
Imagine our dismay when we arrived at what can only be described as a Cafe. We were greeted and seated by a pleasant lady amidst a mixture of chintz and ikea furniture. There was no hint of French Decor or anything remotely Mediterranean.
Putting this aside I was looking forward to the specials offerings and ignoring the menu in front of me as there were only 4 starters and 4 mains, I looked towards the blackboard. Only to see 2 main courses!! One of which was a Pork steak and the Other was a Rump Steak. Both dishes are already on the main menu but with different accompaniments. I was very disappointed.
Add to this, the lady who sat us down then went on to say that if we ordered steak or any of the "specials" there were supplements on top of the list price because we were on Tastecard. Effectively negating the whole idea of the BOGOF offer that attracted us to dine. Not mentioned on their site and not mentioned on the Tastecard App! Very bad advertising and possibly an issue for Trading Standards.
In the end we paid for our drinks and told the lady we were leaving. She immediately got very defensive and almost aggressive in her approach. I was made to feel very uncomfortable. And after reading the manager responses to anything under a 4 star review on Trip Advisor, i can see where the attitude came from.
Nice idea but failed to follow through. Decor was poor, service could of been good but became ugly. Didn't get a chance to try the food but looking at the tables around us I wasn't overly excited. Overall, we will not be going back until decor and menu conditions revised. Nice try but a clear fail when it comes to French Cuisine.
