We have recently moved to the area and are solely getting are way around the place and visiting the restaurants in the area.
We were nervous about coming here as the ratings of late have really seen this place plummet, also we got fairy sharp/short shrift from the place when we called up.
Wanted to score this place 1.5 out of ten,
The most expensive meal we have in Gloucester on tastecard... And also the worst.
The whole place looks and feels it's been run on a shoestring, that sense of cheapness comes across in everything.
From dirty toilets, very small and ungenerous portion sizes...
To being understaffed and not trained in the art of first class customer service and attention to detail, and low quality ingredients for the sides
as for the food itself, the meat was cooked well, The puddings were flavoured well,
But overall the meal was very disappointing, the veg was not up to scratch, the food was cold, (they didn't warm the plates) no brainier with ambient meats one would have thought..
We can't away thinking has this been cooked by a teenager.. It had that feel about it, not sophisticated enough, especially given the price and the presentation was laughable.
At one point in my meal I asked for mayonnaise.. I received a tiny amount enough for 5 chips and when we tried to get there attention to ask for more they were too busy, we tried multiple times....
Puddings were ridiculously small, the apple crumble was nice flavoured apple with just oats sprinkled on top.. What. £6 for that..! I thought.
Food is expensive here, we felt ripped off even with the tastecard... But it's local rivals are similarly priced but on a completely different level taste-wise.
Drinks are limited in choice and surprisingly expensive. £4.50 a pint, and 3.50 a bottle..
When we did try to order another round they were so slow in serving us that we didn't bother asking again.. Again we tried to catch there eye to chase them on the drinks but no avail..
We also ordered a small roll with oil.. This was v. Expensive also.. Almost £3. That seemed very steep.
My advice drop the prices by 20-30% across the board to give people better value and improve portion size and attention to detail - visit your closest rivals Queens Head and Gloucester Old Spot and see what they are doing and start investing the money, time and effort to really start delivering.
Spend your hard earned money there you will get a much better output
Shame as you want to like the place as it has a charm of it's own and the older lady that served us, who I presume was the owner seemed nice and was working quite hard.
