Went for the first time with my mum and her friend for Saturday dinner. Had the chef's special (changes daily, it's a chicken tikka dish for us) and Desi Korma (lamb) for main, okra, chickpeas and spinach as vegetable side dishes. What impressed us was how non-oily, non-salty and adequately spiced the dishes were. They taste like some homemade dishes from my Indian friends. Portion size was generous. Even the sweet mango lassi was better than what I've tried elsewhere.
I've been to at least 5 different Indian/Bangladeshi restaurants in Cambridge over the years, as well as many others in nearby cities (including one which claimed to have food so great that the chef flew to Miami to cook for 007 Daniel Craig and the crew while filming 'Quantum of Solace'), and I would say Meghna is one of the best, beating the 007 one, definitely. What a hidden gem!
Tastecard use was easy. Terms and conditions were made clear upfront at the point of booking. (T&C: Each guest is asked to order a drink and that complimentary rice/naan will not come with the main courses for tastecard members.) I don't mind such rules as many other tastecard restaurants across the country have theirs too, and (while being explained the T&C over the phone) I didn't get the impression that tastecard members are not welcome. Service was warm and friendly. Last but not least, the meal is of great value: just £22 for 2 special mains, 2 veg, rice, naan plus 3 drinks. Where can you match that in city of Cambridge on a Saturday evening?
