2 for 1 at Carters Restaurant at The Busby Hotel

Named after the River Cart which runs through the area, Carters Restaurant at The Busby Hotel in Glasgow is a tranquil setting in which to enjoy a delicious fusion of dishes. The chefs have combined the rustic staples of Italy with the finest Scottish ingredients to offer a tempting duo of dishes.

The carefully designed menu provides lots of choice. Indulge in a ripe and fresh tomato tarte tatin, ham hock croquettes, or a freshly made rosemary and garlic focaccia for starters that ready stomachs for the main event. There are lots of dishes to highlight in the main course section with each offering distinct flavours and fragrances too good to resist. Classic Italian pasta dishes come in the form of chicken Milanese, spring risotto, and penne arrabiata, while alternatives such as smoked breast of duck, lamb cooked three ways, and traditional Scottish steak pie more than hold their own among Italy’s finest.

A fresh and colourful collection of salads include the classic Caesar variety plus a smoked chicken salad too. Be tempted by the dough-based Italian pizza favourite with a range of stone-baked options to choose from; each crowned with mouth-watering flavour combinations. The menu is proud to showcase its Scottish origins with a rich cheeseboard featuring Scottish varieties. The board is teamed with a sweet plum jam, grapes, honey, celery, onion and oak cakes to deliver on taste and texture. Desserts include a decadent sticky toffee pudding and a ginger and walnut chocolate brownie which certainly hit the sweet spot.

Diners are invited to recline in the ambient setting of Carters Restaurant with its choice of dining areas. For an intimate dinner, there are purpose-built booths which offer a degree of privacy. Alternatively, the bright and open conservatory is flooded with light and affords visitors a view across the nearby River Cart.

Step inside Carter Restaurant at The Busby Hotel in Glasgow and enliven the palate with the food of two nations.

On the launch of a new menu and still strutting out a brand new makeover,Carters was an easy choice when looking for a nice lunch on a miserable Tuesday afternoon with the decision being made even easier by their inclusion in the Tastcard Scheme, offering two for one meals.
Booking couldn't have been easier;a quick phone call and a request to make a reservation for the Tastecard offer and we were there just an hour and a half later.
The new look is instantly impressive. There's a modern feel to the restaurant without losing any points for taste thanks to the neutral palette of colours used and the rustic yet not old fashioned look to the furniture.
Seated at the window by a friendly young man,we were presented with the brand new menu boasting a selection of no fuss, rustic Italian inspired meals as well as some favourites from other cuisines such as fajitas and burgers.
You certainly won't be spoiled for choice in this restaurant but a heads up for anyone else thinking of dining earlier in the day; there is no separate lunch menu available. The main menu is the only offer which could make for a pricey lunch. If not for the Tastecard offer, a nice lunch would have cost the same price as an evening meal in any City Centre restaurant offering similar food.
Still, the food arrived quickly after ordering and was very tasty indeed. The chicken fajitas were self assemble and presenting them with cheese, soured cream and salsa was nothing unusual but the tenderness of the chicken and the pleasant after taste left behind by the Mexican style seasoning was proof enough that the meal was freshly cooked and a suitable offering for the price. Similarly the stuffed chicken breast ,served with seasonal vegetables, was a decent sized meal for the price tag and was deliciously tender. And although everything was served already in the tomato reduction, the vegetables were not too mushy and the roast potatoes were not too soggy at all.
So,although Carters at the Busby Hotel is looking fine after a makeover that is clearly more than just a lick of paint and the food was delicious, don't expect to pay less than £40 for your meal.
In saying that, I would dine here again and would gladly recommend it to others. Whether your intention is to take full advantage of the Tastecard offer and eat very well for a little less or to have a nice, non city centre option for a meal with family or friends, Carters at the Busby Hotel won't let you down. However, the introduction of a condensed, less expensive lunch menu would not degrade this restaurant at all and,in my opinion could make stopping here for a nice lunch more accessible to local residents and passers by alike.
I for one will look forward to eating here again soon in any case. "
