" We've just moved into the Tooting area and before last night, we hadn't tried any of the local restaurants. My fiancé hadn't made any plans for date night as he thought he might be working late but he called at 7.30 to say he managed to escape so I called up TanGia after seeing it a few times on my way home and thinking it looked quite popular. They were kindly able to seat us at short notice and we arrived at 8.30. From walking into the door to walking out at the end of the night, there was absolutely nothing we could fault them on.
The food was absolutely delicious and so flavoursome. We were brought some complimentary olives to start and then had the squid and prawns to start. Both were delicious but I would recommend the squid over the prawns if you had to choose, just because I really liked the tomato based dipping sauce it came with. For mains we decided to go full on Moroccan and have the Tagine. I had the chicken lemon dish and it was absolutely delicious - I've NEVER tasted a tagine like that. I loved how the preserved lemons complimented the green olives. Definitely worth a try. Also there is no need for salt or pepper - all dishes are perfectly seasoned. My Fiancé had the lamb fillet tagine which was recommended as a house favourite by the waitress - it definitely lived up to it's reputation. The lamb came perfectly medium rare (as requested) and the sauce was very tasty. We each ordered a side each (cous cous and rice) as each tagine comes with a side but I think you could easily get away with just one to share. The cous cous really expands in the sauce and I only used about 4 tablespoons with the main so there was quite a bit left over. Following the Moroccan theme, I tried the Moroccan Rioja and my partner had the Casablanca lager - both were really great and we'll be ordering them again.
The service and hospitality was superb. The restaurant was very busy but we never went unnoticed. We didn't have to wait very long for our food and everything was served with a smile. The waitress was very polite, knowledgeable and helpful. We met the owner who was very friendly - this was a nice touch. The bill was also reasonable so we left full and happy.
All in all we loved our experience here. The decor, music, delightful smells and tastes take you on a journey. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great evening out in Tooting.
