Anything less than 5 stars in our opinion would be unjust. This was our first visit and will not be our last, despite it not being in our immediate locality.
We visit the Woodsman in Leyland, where we originally met Adrian, Carl, Emelda and the team (great food there too). We were keen to visit here, when Emelda said that they were taking care of it here too. A bonus that it is on tastecard.
The restaurant is vibrant, warm and had a buzzing atmosphere. The smart red leather upholstery was consistent with all seating in the restaurant and the walls had minimal but nice art adorning them.
We had a warm welcome from Carl and Adrian and were quickly seated and presented with menus. We were really impressed with the choice of food and the prices were excellent (and upon eating the meals, competitively priced for the quality and quantity you receive).
We ordered ribs and chicken livers with tomato, basil, red onion and chilli garlic bread. Hubz declared the livers the best he has had (he is particular) and the ribs were generously portioned in a gorgeous sauce garnished with a juicy slice of orange. The garlic bread was delicious with plenty of onion, chilli and tomato.
Mains - hubz ordered special fillet steak with pate and crostini and I ordered fillet with peppercorn sauce. We had a large side plate of cabbage, broccoli and carrots. The steak is an equal to the best we have had (at Sandals Royal Bahamian in their French Restaurant), a hunk of fat free super tasty meat cooked to our specific requests. I am a medium to well done, though it still cut through like butter and was a taste sensation. Hubz loved his steak and the rich sauce dressing it. We both shared the peppercorn sauce which is the best we have tasted in the UK (again our fave peppercorn sauce was at Sandals in the Bahamas).
Dessert (you need to book 3 courses for the tastecard discout) Crème Brulee for him and Choc brownie for me. It was a battle as we are usually 2 course types, though the whole meal was spent with sporadic mmm`s, this is excellent and drifting off into some kind of food utopia mentally.
Do we exaggerate, no. We are spreading the word and cannot wait to return. The restaurant was almost full, so felt lucky to get in.
Service, exceptional. Of course it was great to see Adrian and Carl again, they REALLY care for their clients, though the other gentleman working there was diligent and cared for his clients and it was lovely to meet the chef too.
You have to try here, if you have been thinking of going, do. We cannot wait to return. The bill, with 1.5 pint peroni, a large Pinot and large Rose was £56. Bargain for non bargainous food! Mucho grazias.
