2 for 1 at Ciao Italia

Book a table at Ciao Italia to enjoy delicious, authentic cuisine in warm, family friendly surroundings. The venue itself is just a few minutes’ walk from the Monument and Haymarket bus and metro stations, and for those who prefer to bring the car there is plenty of parking available.

The menu itself is truly extensive, with plenty of choice for all types of diner. Starters range from simple dishes like olives, or parma ham with melon, to tasty pan fried mushrooms served in a creamy garlic and parsley sauce, or the fantastic ‘gamberoni bianco’, pan fried king prawns served with white wine, garlic, mushroom sauce and a timbale of rice. There are a range of chicken dishes, like the chicken supreme, a juicy chicken breast stuffed with fresh mozzarella, ham, prawns and basil then covered in breadcrumbs and deep fried, and then served with cream sauce. Those who enjoy a fish dish will enjoy seabass levornese, pan-fried seabass served on a bed of potatoes, with tomato sauce, black olives, capers and anchovies.

Situated on Leazes Park Road in Newcastle, this restaurant has built itself a fine reputation, and has a loyal North east following. Despite that fact, the friendly owners are always looking to attract and welcome new custom, keen to show UK diners what Italian cuisine is all about. Offering great food and traditional hospitality is what the Ciao Italia team are all about.

Visited here last night with my husband. We have been regulars in the past and seen quite a few changes of name but still basically same staff but standards are slipping with each change. For a Saturday night the restaurant was very quiet. Meal ordered and brought to the table quite quickly along with a bottle of wine and jug of water. Food was good although I wasn't sure if my chicken valdostana was actually proper chicken breast or of the pre-formed variety. Our problem came when the waiter went to clear and in the process knocked over my husband's glass of wine which went straight down his front hitting both shirt and trousers, the latter leaving him looking as though he had had a major accident in the toilet department! A waiter then appeared with several napkins to mop up the disaster and another came with 2 shot glasses of an unknown liquid and a tray with a few sweets on it along with 2 kit kats. This apparently to make up for the mess which we declined immediately and then were brought another glass to replace the spilled one, which we also declined. We ordered desserts, husband's to be creme brulee but when they came it was creme caramel and waiter very quickly disappeared. We brought the manager back and he told us that 'that was how they did the creme brulee' and we could chose another. We rejected both desserts which was a shame as mine did look nice and asked for the bill, with a reduction for the hassle we'd had. We were then quite nastily told that they couldn't do that cos they wouldn't be making any money especially as we were on the 2 for 1 offer. Now we could see why the place was quiet if the attitude of the staff were anything to go with. Really is a shame to see how this place has gone downhill and will not be going back or recommending it anytime in the future. "

We booked a table at 6pm before a 745 kick off, and we missed kick off.

It was so disorganised it was embarrassing and one of the waitresses was even reduced to tears at the chaos. Both tables either side of us left without food, and the table behind us was presented with a bill before they had even had their food. There was a constant stream of people at the till complaining and cancelling orders which was probably the reason for the waitresses melt down bless her.

Unfortunately the food that night was also terrible, we ordered an antipasto starter that had pate on but we didn't get any bread to eat it with, my pizza was undercooked and swimming it's oil and we gave up waiting for Parmesan and black pepper.

It was however extremely easy to use the taste card.

Would ever go back though, I am sure everyone that night would feel the same. "

The food in here is spot on for the money, excellent value, made even better by the taste card.

Sadly for this establishment its interior decor lets it down a bit which is a real shame for passing trade who may walk on by "

This was a fair dining experience. As we were there for a late lunch, we essentially had the place to ourselves. "It's a clean modern twist on old Italia" (my partners opinion!) The staff were friendly but did seem like they'd rather be doing something else. Having said that, service was prompt and the food was at our table very quickly. The good was fine but we expected more flavour from an authentic italian. Complimentary amaretto and chocolates at the end of our meal was a very nice touch though. Overall quite pleasant but I don't think it will become a regular for our tastecard. "
