Located in the heart of the city of Durham, Restaurant 17 is a charming dining destination for a meal out. Found next to the famous Chapters Tearooms, Restaurant 17 sits within a beautiful Grade II listed building and offers a character filled setting in which to dine. The accomplished menu takes inspiration from all over the globe and uses a fine selection of ingredients to impress even the most demanding of diner. A relatively new addition to Durham’s portfolio of restaurants, Restaurant 17 has continued to impress and already boasts a good amount of regular customers.
Diners can expect fresh flavours from around the world in the well-thought out menu. It is clear that the kitchen know a thing or two with a creative set of dishes on offer. Start perhaps with a dish of chicken liver and pork terrine served with toasted brioche and a vegetable relish or a delicious bang bang chicken with Asian peanut sauce and an Asian salad and follow with mains like poached halibut with prawns, saffron potatoes, asparagus and Sandjford sauce or pan fried duck breast with pak choi, nutmeg, cherry wine and blueberry sauce. Forest mushroom and shallot suet pudding is just one of the vegetarian dishes on the menu.
Split into two dining sections, Restaurant 17 combines a modern decadent style with old fashioned character. A boutique style interior in shades of purple, gold and velvet features beautiful chandelier lighting and a huge brick fireplace. Evening candlelit dining is perfect for romancing couples whilst the ambience is wonderfully relaxed.
Please note: Restaurant 17 is closed on Sunday & Monday. The tastecard discount is not available on Bank Holidays or Celebration Days. These include, but are not limited to Valentine’s Day, Mothering Sunday, Father’s Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
