Munal in Worcester Park has been serving up authentic and consistently pleasing Nepalese cuisine for over twenty-five years. The family-run restaurant is one of the most frequented and well-known eateries in Worcester Park, and it’s location, just a few minutes’ walk from the train station, is within easy access of New Malden and Sutton, which makes it the perfect location for a special get-together with friends or an intimate mid-week date night.
Nepalese food is not dissimilar to spicy Indian cuisine, but also includes Chinese and Tibetan influences, creating an interesting fusion of the three. The highly-experienced and passionate head chef uses fresh vegetables, seafood, herbs and spices, and the finest cuts of meat and poultry to recreate this hearty, traditional fare. If you’re new to the cuisine, the nation’s favourite street snack, momos, are unmissable. It’s exceptionally good value for a plate of twelve of these satisfying dumplings filled with meat or vegetables, and served with sauce. Other light bites and starters include the Himalayan Pakoda, with deep fried vegetables and sweet and sour tomato chutney.
Main meals range from Tandoori oven favourites such as Sheekh Kebab and the Nepalese Sekuwa meat or chicken, to their rich and creamy lamb Pasanda, infused with nuts. There’s also the aromatic kind prawn masala, noodle dishes, and a range of healthy vegetarian curries, such as the mutter paneer: A rich homemade cheese dish cooked with peas and spices, and the vegetable kofta in a mild sauce.
The team behind Munal is exceptionally eager to please, and no request is too much for them. Whether you’re visitng for your first taste of the Mountain Kingdom, or you’re an avid Asian foodie returning for your fix, you’re bound to have an unforgettable experience in this comfortable and intimate restaurant.
