3 good king prawns roasted in garlic made a good starter with rucola. Fresh, and well cooked. A little extra salad to complement the rucola (perhaps fennel?) to accompany would have been welcome. What was exceptional was the whole fresh spigola which followed - excellent presentation and went well with the accompanying samphyr & roasted tomatoes. The only negative: The chef had added some aged aceto balsamico which although looked good on the plate perhaps overpowered the very fresh spigola. The side of rosemary potatoes was very generous so didn't fit with one of the negative reviews on this site. We couldn't manage a pudding so can't comment on that. We'd like to thank Amy for her attentive service, but hope the management would increase staff numbers if the restaurant was busy-she wouldn't be able to cope on her own. The restaurant was quiet -consider adding Gourmet Society to your current Taste Card scheme, and speak to The Tourist Office because visitors may not find you at the far end of Castle Street. Your food was really very good, - our experience was much better than some of the reviews described. True, the starters&puddings are set at a slightly higher price point than many in Salisbury, though still less then The Charter Restaurant. So pleased to have found you in Salisbury. "

The meal was very good - just not a good start with bar man slow and not used to taking cash for drinks, the popular main course being sold out and an unexperienced waitress not able to deal with our request and instead of referring to the Manager, kept asking the chef. However meal was good, slow service on pudds and mix up over coffee order.

Probably would go again but don't think I would go for a special occasion. It was for us a bit poor on service. Just lacked that little something that makes a meal special.

Oh and our coats were taken from us - and we were told they would be by reception. On collection they were - but on a public coat rack in the main entrance foyer - mine had a very expensive brooch on it - luckily it was still there but I had thought the cloaks would have been a little more secure. Just a point of concern. "

" My husband & I can with friends this evening. The service was very slow (there was a function on) which took priority it seemed. Food is seriously over priced, my seafood basket was £8, 2 small prawns, 2 tiny calamari rings & a crab ball was certainly not enough to warrant this price. All meals need veg etc added which is an extra cost. Not good value. The steaks were very fatty so there was a lot of fat to cut off. The manger tried to remove our dishes before we had finished (I had to ask her her to put my vegetables back on the table!) If you want a fantastic meal (steaks especially) at a true 2for1 price then the White Hart Hotel beats this place hands down. Would we go back? Not a chance, there are far better venues in Salisbury. All in all very expensive for a well below par meal. "
