It’s not too difficult to imagine what’s on offer at the brilliant Bourbon and Black restaurant, a fantastic addition to the restaurant scene of central Manchester. Following in the highly successful footsteps of the original Bourbon and Black restaurant and bar over in Didsbury, this second opening, perched on the corner of Mount Street and Central Street, has already gained rave reviews. Expect a bar filled with a range of Bourbons and a menu which centres itself on the charcoal open fire (hence the black) at this exciting Manchester eatery.
Using an open charcoal fire and ancient smoking methods, the theatre style kitchen of Bourbon and Black produces some pretty impressive dishes. Tuck into the amazing pit chilli brisket, smoked slowly in the special house rub and served with chilli and southern style rice or the divine charcoal grilled whole sea bass with chargrilled broccoli, grilled lemon and southern style rice. The steaks are really good, including a stellar Tomahawk steak for two. Other highlights include the juicy rack of ribs and the Spatchcock poussin, both cooked over the open charcoal fire.
A hip restaurant and bar, Bourbon and Black pays homage to the traditional American rick house in terms of style where bourbon barrels are stacked up on rows of wooden shelving and rough white washed bricks dominate the space. As for the bar, expect to find a fine choice of bourbon including limited edition bottles and old favourites as well as a wide range of other drink options.
