Famous for its sea salt and oysters, the coastal town of Maldon is a charming, character filled place and offers a delightful alternative to many of the other towns along the Essex coastline. There are some great dining options within this quaint maritime town including the lovely Secret Garden Bistro, a superb little eatery serving a fine menu of seasonal ingredients inspired by the local area. Housed in the 500 year old Kings Head Centre along the top of the High Street, The Secret Garden Bistro is a great option for those looking for somewhere nice to eat in Maldon.
Simple honest food is on the menu at The Secret Garden Bistro, with many ingredients coming from the marvellous local larder. Try the smoked Maldon trout with horseradish mousse, warm bread and watercress to start with and follow with a succulent herb crusted lamb rump with Maldon honey roasted carrots and crushed potatoes or the amazing Blackwater clams with creamy garlic and white wine sauce, chunky rustic bread and seasoned frites. The wine list takes inspiration from the beautiful surrounding area and features some fine offerings to accompany such fantastic dishes whilst the homemade puddings are fast becoming legendary in these parts.
A charming dining room with dark woods and deep red cushioned seating is found at The Secret Garden Bistro. Wooden beams and bricks reflect the age of the building and the fairy light filled tree in the centre of the room is very pretty and in keeping with the name.
