Bringing authentic Malaysian cuisine to the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, Mr. Lee’s Kampung Ali brings with it a wealth of experience and a dedication to perfecting the art of the Oriental cooking style. Having already established a restaurant in his home town of Negeri Sembilan, the owner – whose previous four generations were all famous chefs – opened his first restaurant, Kampung Ah Lee (or “Lee’s Village”), which proved to be a huge success. This prompted him to create his “bigger village”, in the form of Kampung Ali, in order to share his exotic and colourful flavours with a larger audience, leaving a smile on the face of each and everyone.
Rice and noodle lovers will not be out of place at Kampung Ali, with offerings that come in all shapes, sizes and forms, from their salted fish and minced pork fried rice, to their stir fried beef ho fun. This is perfectly rivalled by the array of sea food options that will leave any fish-lover salivating, including a plate of steamed sea bass and a drunken king prawn dish, or for those that can’t quite decide – a mixed sea food platter! Though as far as recommendations go, diners won’t go far wrong with one of the Kampung favourites, with servings that range from the sweet, in the form of a mango chicken, to the spicy sambal chicken or beef choosing’s. And with the 2 for 1 tastecard offer to take advantage of, it seems almost criminal not to add a starter, with courses ranging from your typical wan ton to their sublime capital spare ribs, as well as a variety of soups.
The location on Fountainbridge is walking distance from a number of bars and pubs, making Kampung Ali a fantastic destination to enjoy an exquisite meal before enjoying a few drinks with a friend or significant other. Talk about the perfect night!
