Sanminis in Ramsbottom is the first of its kind in the north of England. Chef Padmini identified a need for good quality South Indian food and sought to fill this gap herself. By joining forces with Sankar, together they have created Sanminis which is an amalgamation of their two names and a truly personal venture.
Padmini (known as Mini) creates lightly spiced Indian dishes devoid of any artificial colourings. Using only the freshest produce, delicate South Indian recipes grace the carefully compiled menu that is suited to both carnivores and vegetarians alike. Start off with poppadums served with exotic chutneys, or sample instead deep fried blackgram doughnut cakes, cashew and spinach pakora, fried tuna cakes, Sanminis fresh fish medley, or a dish of pan-fried cubed lamb instead.
The main course options continue Padmini’s quest for quality foodstuffs representing the best of South Indian cookery. Fresh okra with tomatoes and herbs, moondal tempered with South Indian spices, chickpeas with poppy, fennel and cashew nuts, mince lamb, and chicken cooked with fresh methi are among the tempting treats on offer. Or why not try one of Mini’s tiffin specialities? Conclude with a traditional Indian pudding of payasam or the popular and familiar gulab jamun served with ice cream.
The restaurant has been recommended in the Which Good Food Guide as well as the 2015 Michelin Guide. This level of endorsement does much to enhance Sanminis good reputation. The restaurant is housed within an old gatehouse dating back to 1857 while inside the interior is modern and stylish. The cosy space provides a great place for meeting friends with affable and proficient service on tap.
Experience Mini’s personal and homely approach to South Indian cuisine at Sanminis in Ramsbottom and enjoy a weekend evening of authentic and honest cuisine.
