Named after the English-American political activist, author and revolutionary figure that was Thomas Paine, the Thomas Paine Hotel can be found on White Hart Street in the historic Norfolk market town of Thetford. This history that has not been lost on the venue, which has been built from three 18th century cottages and can boast fabulous wooden beams, a high stained glass ceiling and uneven wooden floors in the creation of a magnificent, rustic feel.
The hotel can be found just a hop, skip and a jump away from some of the area’s major attractions, with the Ancient House Museum and the Thetford Priory in close proximity and the Little Ouse River just a short walk away. This makes the hotel a terrific stop off point for those in the midst of exploration and in the Bar at the Thomas Paine Hotel there are an array of casual dining options available that are developed using only the best in locally sourced ingredients.
The toasted sandwiches – where a glorious BLT Special is accompanied by a triple decker club sandwich that contains bacon, lettuce, tomato, egg and mayo – provide the perfect option for the diner on the go. Whereas in the omelette, complete with the diner’s choice of fillings, the handmade burgers, and the traditional ham, egg and chips are wonderful alternatives for those taking a slightly longer break.
With a number of walking and cycling routes to be found in the area too, there doesn’t seem to be many better placers in the area to enjoy the required respite than the Bar at the Thomas Paine Hotel.
