Nestled away amongst the scenery of the historic village of Blisworth near Northampton and a mere stone’s throw away from the picturesque Blisworth Marina, The Walnut Tree Inn is the perfect place from which to escape the trials and tribulations of every-day life. The family run hotel has been supplying delighted guests with a warm and welcoming atmosphere since reopening in 2005 which, combined with a sumptuous food offering, makes for a fabulous casual dining experience.
Led by charismatic and inventive chef Christian Ringsby-Burgess, the Bar at the Walnut Inn delivers a menu that perfectly demonstrated his passion and integrity – with 100% of their dishes being prepared on the premises using only the best in locally sourced ingredients.
For the gourmet on the go, the Walnut Tree Inn has a fantastic range of light bites available that are perfect for a quick snack. From the hot saddleback pork roll to the sumptuous Marie Rose covered crayfish tails, there is a medley of sandwiches on show that are just waiting to be devoured, and with the salad options, such as the sublime pickled beetroot and feta cheese number and the traditional pan-roasted chicken Caesar salad, there is always something there for the more health conscious in the party.
It seems a shame however not to partake in the full three courses at this fine establishment, where the starters list includes a tasty terrine of pork, ham hock and leeks as well as a salted halibut that falls apart in the mouth is only beat by an array of main courses that are as diverse as they are delectable. The quintessentially British favourite beer-battered cod loin is accompanied by a succulent 8oz ribeye steak in a set of pub classics that will really delight the traditionalists, while the seared wood pigeon and the new potato fondant accompanied hake supreme offer something that little bit different. The more herbivorous diners will no doubt enjoy the Ajo Blanco – a popular Spanish cold soup that comes complete with watermelon, grapes and wild rocket leaves – and the chick pea based ultimate vegetarian burger.
Round the meal off in style with a dessert from a selection that will have even the lightest of eaters trying to find that bit of extra room in their stomach, where the sharp rhubarb and pistachio crumble cheesecake is perfectly contrasted by the richly sweet dark chocolate marquise – and the award-winning Artisan cheese board is magnificent savoury option.
