One of the newest additions to the ever-popular Arc Inspirations family, The Pit on central Leeds’s lively Merrion Street is now offering ravenous tastecard members the opportunity to feast on top-quality Southern BBQ style burgers, steaks and ribs, as well as vibrant Mexican food. Sourced locally, before being slowly cooked on a low heat in the American style, the succulent, prime quality meat on offer at The Pit is bound to have you returning time and time again.
Despite The Pit’s rough ‘n’ ready American gold mining theme, complete with the tagline, ‘Mind Your Head…’, the restaurant is far from filthy inside. This laid-back lower-ground floor bar has pristine surfaces illuminated by low hanging bulbs, and friendly service enjoyed by a mostly young and stylish clientele.
Expect to leave with your stomach bulging full of comfort food from the Deep South and Mexico. The menu features southern style BBQ chicken smothered in American sausage gravy, the melt-in-your-mouth Boston butt – a plate full of pulled pork, blackened sweet onions, smashed apple sauce, crisp smoked streaky bacon served on corn bread with slaw - and the sweet and sticky Hickory-smoked baby back ribs. There’s also mac ‘n’ cheese creations, and plenty of burritos, tacos and nacho plates perfect for sharing.
The Pit Burgers, however, are the main event. Served on large plates with a choice of normal or sweet potato fries, the Ultimate Cheese and Bacon Burger - a bacon and pork burger served with chipotle mayonnaise, Monterey Jack cheese, beer battered onion rings and BBQ sauce – is sure to satisfy your meat cravings and cure even the most furious of hangovers. If you’re up for a real challenge, try test the steeliness of your stomach with the Pit Master: a towering meat offering, stacked high with a beef burger, bacon, pulled pork, chicken, Monterey Jack cheese and beer battered onion rings.
With cosy booth seating, a vibrant drinks menu, and even a den area complete with a ping-pong table, The Pit has everything you and your friends, family or date will need for hours of fun. Surrounded by some of the coolest bars in Leeds, The Pit has become so popular that three sibling restaurants have opened in suburbs of the city: if you’re not feeling like a trip into the city centre, try Headlingley, Harrogate or Chapel Allerton’s branches of this American gem, also on tastecard.
