Just a ten minute drive from the historic city of Cambridge, The Red Lion at Whittlesford Bridge is a gorgeous country pub and restaurant. Boasting an AA Rosette awarded restaurant and superb lounge bar, this country inn is conveniently located next to junction 10 of the M11 and find itself just opposite Whittlesford train station where easy access to both Cambridge and London is enjoyed. Despite this, The Red Lion offers a tranquil and typical village pub style atmosphere and is a fantastic destination for a meal, be it in the award winning restaurant or in the lovely lounge bar.
Focussing on the lounge bar at The Red Lion, Head Chef Chris Sharman and his team have created a superb casual bar menu that never fails to impress and is a brilliant alternative to the restaurant’s more formal offering. A range of mouth-watering sandwiches are on offer for the lighter bite such as local pork and sage sausages with sweet red onion marmalade whilst main courses feature a fine range of ingredients. The Scotch egg made from a free range duck egg, local black pudding and tomato gel is one to look out for as is the homemade steak and ale pie served with steamed baby vegetables and a rich Madeira jus. Save some space for dessert as sticky toffee pudding with salted butterscotch sauce and Madagascan vanilla ice cream is one the menu!
A 13th century coaching inn, The Red Lion at Whittlesford Bridge is a beautiful old building with bags of period character and charm. Huge beams feature throughout along with an abundance of exposed brick work. A delightful setting for such amazing food, this place is well worth hopping off the M11 for.
