Located within the idyllic village of Shincliffe is the charming Seven Stars Inn, which plays host to a restaurant that contains plenty of delights for all those who seek a little respite from a hectic city life.
Originally a coaching inn dating back to 1724, the Seven Stars Inn is a fantastic spot steeped in history yet still boasts a beautifully modern restaurant. Welcoming one and all, be they lone diners or entire families, the Seven Stars Inn caters to groups both large and small, with a rich assortment of vegetarian dishes, a kid friendly menu and many delectable meals that covers anything from pizzas to pan fried dishes.
Proving that this humble inn serves more than just snacks or pub food, the menu features several superb starters. Some of said exemplary appetisers include the rich pork, port and duck liver pate, complete with a pear and apple chutney, and the sublime blue cheese, mandarin and walnut salad, accented by a red current glaze.
Truly spoiling their guests for choice, the main courses are as diverse as they are delicious. There are exquisitely hearty options, such as the succulent locally sourced 8oz Grand Reserve ribeye steak and the monstrous Seven Stars Grand Reserve Gourmet Beef Burger, stacked with pulled BBQ chicken, garlic chilli mayo and onion rings.
Vegetarians also have plenty of options available, such as one of the handmade pizzas the Vegetariana, covered with peppers, mushrooms and red onions, or one of the fantastic main course options, including the scrumptious sun-dried tomato and roasted pepper risotto and the excellent pan seared potato gnocchi, served with sautéed leek and chestnut mushrooms, sage butter and fresh parmesan.
Being so hidden away, it’s natural that the Seven Stars Inn is surrounded by natural beauty. There are plenty of countryside walking routes around, many of which pass the river that flows between Shincliffe and Durham. If that doesn’t sound appealing the city of Durham is but a drive away, and can be reached by bus via the bus stop that rests almost on the Seven Stars Inn’s doorstep.
Please Note: The Seven Stars Inn is closed on Mondays. The tastecard discount is not available on Bank Holidays or Celebration Days including, but not limitied to, Valentine's Day, Father's Day, Mothering Sunday, etc. The tastecard discount is not available on Sundays, as there is no a la carte menu served on this day.
