The Drum and Monkey is nestled in the village of Kenn in Clevedon and has acquired a good reputation throughout north Somerset. Its British menu is filled with classic dishes as befits this historical English pub.
Visitors are seated in the roomy dining area and presented with a familiar menu certain to please fans of the traditional British dish. Classic prawn cocktail makes for a good choice of starter; so too the aromatic peppered stilton mushrooms. It doesn’t come more traditional than steak and kidney pudding served with oodles of gravy! Patrons seeking a departure from classic pub fodder are tempted by the curry house special of chicken tikka masala, and the Italian-inspired pork Napoleon. Rosemary and garlic lamb steaks hit the spot when it comes to fragrance, while a beef and reef dish successfully combines the best of land and sea. The menu offers lots of variety and particularly noteworthy are the number of gluten-free dishes available. The sweet trolley is laden with favourites including lemon meringue pie and treacle sponge.
The venue is so-called after the fairs which used to take place on the surrounding nearby moors. The pub changed its name only to be reverted again to its former title of The Drum and Monkey following a full restoration. Inside, the venue boasts a spacious dining room with high ceilings flooding the area with light. Wooden tables and bare brick walls retain the historical integrity of the building while modern décor brings it in line with today’s fashions. The pub offers a rear beer garden as well as tables dotted curb-side. The outdoor area comes complete with old-fashioned stocks so misbehaving drinkers beware!
Pay a visit to The Drum and Monkey in Clevedon and experience good old-fashioned hospitality in one of the oldest pubs in the area.
