Hailed as south London’s very first all vegan restaurant and bar, VegBar sits within the confines of Brixton and is perched on the edge of the leafy green Brockwell Park.
Just a short walk from Herne Hill train station, this fantastic addition to the dining scene of the area is proving to be a big hit, not just amongst the local vegan community but with those looking for a much healthier option when it comes to eating out.
The menu is an imaginative display of vegan delights with flavour inspirations taken from all over the globe. Tuck into a delicious Vietnamese salad with raw carrot, courgette, radish, onion, fresh herbs, sesame seeds and cashews with lime vinaigrette or a tasty tofu frittata of the day with a tomato salad. The polenta vegetable stack is another great dish to sample, made with grilled mixed vegetables drizzled with a delicious parsley pesto and served on a grilled polenta cake.
A speciality of the house are the amazing Seitan wings, a take on chicken wings made from wheat instead of meat and served with a choice of BBQ, fiery hot or peanut satay sauce as well as spring greens and Cajun fries while another stand out dish is the tofu “fish” and chips which is wrapped in seaweed and served with homemade mushy peas and Cajun fries.
A modern little dining room, one wall pays homage to one of the UK’s most famous vegans – Morrissey – with posters of the singer and references to The Smiths plastered all over it. The rest of the room features lots of wood and fresh white tones.
