Found in the centre of Nuneaton, close to the Abbeygate Shopping Centre, Ichiban Express excels at crafting fantastic Japanese cuisine and especially remarkable sushi.
Be adventurous and give Ichiban Express a try at 2 for 1, with the tastecard discount even honoured even on Friday and Saturday nights. Showcasing some well-known aspects of Japanese pop culture, the chefs at Ichiban Express have special sushi dishes known as ‘Kawaii (cute) Sushi’, which take of the form of icons like Hello Kitty and Pokemon’s Pikachu, essentially making them excellent introductions to sushi for kids, as well as novel dishes that are sure to rack up the Instagram likes!
For the more mature tastes there are the classic types of sushi, such as nigiri, maki and rolls, all of which offer many diverse tastes. Perfect for a first step to sampling sushi are some of the cooked variations, such as the tempura based Prawn Heaven rolls or the grilled Chicken Winner rolls. For the more seasoned sushi lovers there are specialities like the Ichiban roll, packed with tuna, prawn tempura and a spicy miso and masago, and the Mongo Ika, which are cuttlefish nigiri pieces.
Ideal for the sushi experience of sampling various aspects of Japanese cuisine without the fear of eating something raw, are the diverse appetisers, which are fantastic for a tapas style experience. Just a few of the exemplary starters include the BBQ flavoured cha sieuw pork buns, the tantalising crab claws, the crispy seaweed salad and the salty but oh so satisfying edamame.
If the thought of utilising chopsticks seems too daunting there are some excellent rice and noodle based dishes to enjoy. The various teriyaki dishes, consisting of either beef, salmon, tuna or chicken, are delectably sweet meals while the assorted tempura dishes are great options for those who like their cuisine fried.
Other tastes of Nippon are present as well, like the gyoza dumplings and ramen soup dishes, yet no true Japanese dining experience is complete without tasting one of every type of dish on the menu.
