Everyone loves a great Indian restaurant and thankfully the excellent Shimla Pinks restaurant in Leicester is exactly that. Located in the very centre of the city, within shouting distance of Leicester train station and the area’s countless shops,

Shimla Pinks serves up an authentic and delicious Indian menu. Modern and stylish, this curry house certainly keeps up to date with the trend, whilst the menu seeks to excite and surprise with a good combination of classic and contemporary Indian dishes to choose from.

The range of starters on the Shimla Pinks menu is incredible, with choices from the chicken, vegetarian, lamb and seafood sections all offering up some very pleasant options. Favourites among them include the chicken cooked with saffron and yoghurt in the tandoori oven and the mixed avocado salad (an ingredient rarely found in Indian cooking) with chicken tikka and a tangy dressing. Signature mains include an impressive prawn mango curry with ginger and coriander and a rich butter chicken in a tomato and fenugreek sauce. Vegetarians should give the egg Bhurji a go, a dish of scrambled eggs cooked with a tangy tomato and onion gravy.

Modern grey tones set off with splashed of red create a contemporary look at Shimla Pinks, where the walls are lined with cool banquette seating and tables are without the usual white linens of many a curry house. Service is superb at this Leicester eatery, with great care taken to ensure every guest enjoys their experience and leaves the restaurant more than satisfied.

We visited recently and were amazed at the quality of the food, much better than it's ever been before over the last many many years that we've been here. I had the spicy lamb chops starter, wonderfully tender and very tasty, my wife had grilled prawns. Fantastic quality main courses were just as good, king prawn jalfrezi and goan fish curry and the rice was beautifully fragrant with separate grains. So much better than the normal fake Indian restaurants run by Bangladeshis, this is proper Indian high quality cooking, will be going again quite soon, highly recommended and will give my other favourite Indian restaurant Lilu a good run for its money.
