Despite its rural setting atop of Box Hill in Surrey, The Tree on Box Hill exudes a sophisticated, metropolitan style.
Unlike most traditional country pubs, The Tree is as large and as lofty as a barn, lending an uplifting air to proceedings.
The kitchen team at The Tree do locally sourced British favourites exceedingly well, but also reach far beyond the realms of the usual gastropub fare. The menu is likely to change as the seasons do, but expect deep fried Camembert with cranberry chutney, or salt and pepper squid with sweet chilli for starters, before a main course of 28 day aged 8oz sirloin steak served with chunky chips and a rocket and parmesan garnish, Malaysian coconut curry, or pizza. Desserts are a quintessentially English affair, ranging from the seasonal berry Eton mess, to a cheesecake or warm treacle sponge.
High roofs and plenty of windows let natural light flow throughout the many rooms, which are bedecked with mahogany leather Chesterfield sofas, rustic wooden furniture and ceiling beams. The walls are painted in creams and neutrals, and in the summer, there's a serene garden to dine in.
A short drive from Tadworth, Box Hill offers superb views of the Surrey Hills. With plenty of parking outside of The Tree, it's the perfect spot to enjoy a long lunch or dinner after a walk in Surrey Hills Residential Park. There's lots of room for little ones (both in terms and space and on the menu) and with this modern pub's exceptionally friendly service, it pays to bring the family.
