Standing as one of the crowning gems of the Newcastle dining scene is the exemplary Silk Room Restaurant and Champagne Bar.
Winning numerous awards for both its food and its drink, including winning the Gourmet Society Best Drinks List, the Silk Room makes for the perfect location when diners require something special and something sparkling with their meal.
Both run and owned by David Ursell, the Silk Room is proud to call itself the only champagne bar in the North East, and regularly serves a renowned clientele of sportspeople and musicians. tastecard members can now count themselves among such a gathering and enjoy a fantastic discount on the exquisite food served when calling in advance with their tastecard.
Begin the experience with one of the rich starters, including such exemplary appetisers as the irresistible hand dived sea scallops, accompanied with smoked chorizo and a garden pea puree, the sumptuous terrine of duck, enriched with fig and pistachio, and the delectable Portobello mushroom and goat’s cheese salad, tossed with a poached hens egg and asparagus spears.
A wealth of grilled delights and modern classics are available for the main course, catering equally to carnivorous and herbivorous diners alike, yet the truly merit worthy dishes are the three specialities of the Silk Room.
First of which is the Famous Kobe Wagyu Burger, made with meat that is widely accepted as the greatest source in the world from Kobe, Japan, as the cattle is hand massaged daily and fed beer, which produces immensely rich meat that has been scientifically proven to reduce cholesterol. The Silk Room’s juicy burger is stacked in specially made sun dried tomato bun with fresh lollo rosso, Portobello mushrooms, curly endive and much more.
The second speciality is one that will get adventurous meat eaters excited; the Kangaroo Fillet Steak. A deep dark red meat that’s high in iron and protein while being low in fat, kangaroo meat has always been an important element of the traditional Australian Aboriginal diet. This monstrous meal is served with caramelised pears, pancetta, and a port, red currant and butter jus.
Last but certainly not least is the Pot Caught Local Whole Lobster, sourced by local fishermen from the coast of Northumberland. Rich in various vitamins, as well as taste of course, this dish is so spectacularly delicious that it is merely accompanied by a garlic butter sauce and hand cut chips.
Truly a restaurant worth visiting, if only once, the Silk Room will surely make for a memorable dining venue.
