An enchanting Brazilian chain created by foodie founders, Jamie Barber and David Ponte, Cabana bring the carnival of Rio to Newcastle.
Embracing the Brazilian ethos of ‘tudo bem’, or ‘everything’s good’, Cabana certainly creates an uplifting ambience, with its wildly decorated interior and vivid Brazilian feel, which goes hand in hand with the utterly delicious Brazilian offerings.
Diners calling in advance with their tastecard can enjoy a taste of Rio at a ridiculously low price, allowing the party to keep going throughout the entire menu. Kick things off with one of the superb starters, such as the irresistible crispy Lula Squid, salt and pepper enriched squid rings fried until golden and accompanied with Malagueta mayonnaise, the scrumptious chargrilled halloumi, partnered with a guava dip, and the delectable spicy malagueta pulled chicken sliders.
Move onto the mouth-watering main courses, which come in various Brazilians styles, including ribs, salads, burgers, rice dishes and, the stars of the menu, on skewers. Some particularly noteworthy dishes feature the likes of the exquisite Vegoada, a classic Brazilian stew overflowing with aubergine, black beans and peppers, the tender prize winning Guava-Cue Ribs, glazed with a stick barbecue sauce and paired with a mango and cashew coleslaw, and the succulent 8oz Cabana Steak, grass fed beef marinated with chilli and cumin and served on skewer, which is also available with a side or ribs, chicken wings or, the surf and turf sensation, spicy prawns.
A wealth of divine desserts are also available, alongside a specially crafted kid’s menu for the younger members of the party, ensuring that every party will be a fantastic affair at Cabana.
