2 for 1 at The Oak Bar at The Lion Hotel

Located in the centre of Shrewsbury is the enchanting Lion Hotel, a stunning grade I 16th century coaching inn that still retains much of the original architecture.

Guests can visit the Lion Hotel regardless of intent to stay overnight or not, and there’s more than just the architecture to marvel at as the wondrous Oak Bar offers a comfortable, almost regal environment in which to enjoy some sumptuous fare.

Acting as an informal alternative to the hotel’s Hayward Restaurant, the Oak Bar is no less exquisite as an array of British and internationally inspired dishes form a menu overflowing with rich flavours. Members with a tastecard can enjoy all of this at an excellent price as well, should they give advance notice of their arrival.

Split evenly between a diverse assortment of sandwiches and an eclectic ensemble of main courses, the menu features something pleasing to all palates. Starting with the swift solution to hunger pangs, a few examples of the unorthodox selection of tantalising sandwiches include the scrumptious Open Jerk Chicken, served on sourdough with a paprika mayonnaise, and the exemplary smoked salmon, complete with cream cheese and pickled cucumber.

The heartier main dishes vary from home style British delights to tastes from across the world, with notable choices being the juicy Lion Burger, a 6oz patty topped with confit tomatoes and mature Cheddar cheese between a sourdough bun, the delectable sweet potato, spinach and goat’s cheese pie, accompanied with fresh garden peas and creamy mashed potatoes, and the enticing salmon and lemon grass fishcakes, partnered with an Asian peanut salad.

Explore the historic town and retire to the Lion Hotel, where the utmost in hospitality and delicious dishes await.
