Situated between Preston and Blackburn, at the fork of the A59 and the A677, is the enchanting Samlesbury Hotel.

Close by to historic locations, such as Ribble Valley and various market towns, as well as plenty of vibrant hotspots, like Blackpool and Manchester, the Samlesbury Hotel finds itself in an enviable position for those travelling either for business or pleasure.

Housed within the Samlesbury Hotel are several eateries, with none as casual as The Bar and Lounge, which makes for the perfect spot to rest and recuperate after a long drive. Regardless of whether they’re staying overnight or not, tastecard members can settle into The Bar and Lounge at Samlesbury Hotel and enjoy some delightful bites at an excellent price when they call in advance with their card.

Ideal as accompaniments to a few drinks, as well as tantalising precursors to a larger meal, are the nibbles and light bites, such as the eclectic tempura medley, consisting of lightly fried vegetables, squid and prawns with a soy and sake dip, and the enticing ensemble that is the Sharing Board, which features onion rings, Kansas style BBQ ribs and chicken skewers.

A concise list of larger plates are also available, should a ravenous hunger besiege diner’s while relaxing in The Bar and Lounge, including invigorating Superfood Salad, raspberry, balsamic and black pepper dressed leaves tossed with edamame beans, chilli-roasted seeds and the option of adding prawns, salmon or halloumi, and the fiery Colonel burger, a Cajun spice enriched chicken breast burger topped with house mayonnaise.

Whether diner’s need to dash off with haste or have plenty of time to waste the succinct selection of dishes will have plenty of palates covered, as there are some swift sandwiches options as well as divine desserts, catering to all appetites. A delightful alternative to usual carbon copy hotel lounges, The Bar and Lounge at Samlesbury Hotel has plenty of charm going for it.

We visited on a Sunday evening. We received excellent service form Philippe, who was very attentive, professional though personable.

We skipped starters and ordered 2 mains. Kansas ribs for me and chicken in a sage and thyme crumb with stuffed garlic. The food was gorgeous, smelt and looked it and proved to be just as good as our senses were telling us. Someone else in the dining room ordered the fish and chips and that looked lovely too, a huge fillet of fish in golden batter. Next time we go, I am getting that.

The dining room was smart though there was not much of an atmosphere, which we guess can be a risk of dining at hotels. There was not a buzz, though I think the hotel could not do anything to change this, as it was just a big space with a few people in and good music in the background. That is why we kept the score a 5, as we were impressed.

Pinot Grigio was nice and we had a cocktail each after too, whisky sour and French martini that were as good as any that we have had at our favourite cocktail bars.

    Look forward to returning. "
