Part of the Oxford School of Hospitality Management, Brookes Restaurant isn’t just somewhere for students to hone their culinary abilities, it’s also renowned as a fine dining location in its own right.

With a focus on teaching students how to best use ingredients, and which ingredients are best, every dish is made using fresh, locally sourced artisan elements from trusted and eco-friendly suppliers.

Now inviting tastecard diners to visit and savour some sublime student cooked culinary wonders, those who call in advance can enjoy everything on the menu at an unbeatable price, making an already low priced luxury even cheaper. And as every new customer helps the students learn more and more, it’s a win-win for both parties.

The menu is often a concise list, although it regularly changes to teach students new recipes and is always bound to offer an exquisite feast. Examples of the excellent appetisers have included the refreshing beetroot salad, tossed with blue cheese and hazelnuts, the rich shellfish risotto, accompanied with sea vegetables and a prawn fritter, and the delectable red leg partridge, complete with caramelised celeriac and a smoked bacon cream.

The previously seen main courses have been just as amorous, such as the succulent chargrilled Gloucestershire venison, partnered with star anise carrots and braised mushrooms, the sumptuous butternut croquettes, served with charred cauliflower and marrow gratin, and the juicy honey glazed Kelmscott pork fillet, paired with a slow cooked shoulder and pearl barley broth.

Rounding off the list with some divine desserts, past treats have featured the likes of the heavenly blueberry fool, adorned with cinnamon beignets, the decadent salted caramel banana, matched with a peanut butter ice cream, and the zesty lemon syrup sponge, covered with a vanilla custard.

Offering a fine dining experience for a tremendously low price, diners are highly advised to call in advance to see if the students are around. If they are, then pop in for a visit to give them some experience and grant yourself an illustrious meal.
