Award winning gastro pub, The Compasses at Pattiswick is a destination pub hidden neatly in the beautiful North Essex country side of Pattiswick. Located just off the A120 with free parking, The Compasses at Pattiswick offers a friendly atmosphere, far reaching countryside views, mouth watering menus, guest ales and an extensive wine list available by the glass.

Greeted by a friendly front of house team and welcomed with a roaring log fire in the cold winter months, whilst in the summer the large pub garden caters for all, with a children’s play area for the “younger diners”. The Compasses pride themselves in retaining individual character whilst being passionate about hospitality and good food!

Seemingly miles from any populated areas, The Compasses at Pattiswick is only 20 minutes from both Chelmsford and Colchester.

Please note: The taste discount is not available on Bank Holidays, and is only available on the a la carte menu. Only a Sunday menu is served on Sunday so is excluded from the tastecard discount.

" I ate here for the first time yesterday lunch time as I have read some good reviews about this place. The food was very nice and the staff were ok but I couldn't help feeling as if this restaurant is a bit overrated after the reviews I have read and the way people act in the place I was expecting it to be a bit better than it was. I did not realise I had to pre book to use the tastecard as I hadn't used it before so when I asked about using it the staff were quite rude and it was refused. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to any of my friends. I also feel that some of the locals to this restaurant were quite obnoxious and inconsiderate with some things they were discussing rather loudly with children around. "

Great food, great wine and great staff in a beautiful countryside setting.
Even down to the small flower arrangements on the tables. "

Well presented food and with the card it's even better value, credit where it's due, well deserved all round. "

Twinkle said "Excellent week day dinner
It was a quiet week day when my husband and I went to dinner. However there was still a warm, relaxing friendly atmosphere so you didn't feel like you had to whisper as can be the case when you walk into a restaurant with few patrons.
The food really was excellent - my only complaint was that I was so full after a delicious starter of wild mushrooms followed by succulent pork belly that I could not fit in pudding!

A most enjoyable evening with staff that were just the right level of attentiveness. "

Lisa said "Delicious Sunday Lunch
We were en route to Braintree and thought we'd stop in and have some lunch. Though the restaurant was busy, staff were able to accommodate us. We were served quickly in the very pleasant restaurant. I could not fault the food or service - I had beef and my partner had pork. Both were delicious. Desserts too were decadent and moorish. We had a really lovely time here and will be coming back soon. Nicely greeted, good food choice, well prepared and presented only to be let down by very slow service - order taking and delivery of food/clearance of the table was extremely slow, almost painfully slow and the restaurant was not at capacity.

In my opinion if the service element was brushed up on this, it would be a highly recommended venue.

In other aspects we could not fault our welcome there. "

"We visited today at lunchtime and had a lovely meal, starting with a creamy goats cheese mix and sautéed chicken liver, with olives on the side, followed by poached salmon and duck breast. A steady flow of custom for a Monday lunchtime did not affect the service. Definitely recommended for a visit Ashley   "
