As well as a fantastic menu with equally fantastic staff, they pride themselves on how their restaurant looks; from polished bamboo flooring to bespoke modern silk shades, they have strived for a dining area with a contemporary oriental atmosphere.
Please note: The tastecard discount is available on the full a la carte menu only for lunch & dinner and cannot be used on any set menus. The tastecard discount is not available on Bank Holidays or Celebratory Days including Valentine’s Day, Mothering Sunday, Father’s Day etc. The use of multiple cards is not accepted at Gars Chinese restaurant; only 1 card can be used per tastecard booking. This is an expensive Chinese to eat in. BUT that’s because of the quality food you get. It has to be the best Chinese food I have tasted. The satay sauce is unique to Gars and is amazing. The staff are all polite and give a great service, always happy to give advice on new dishes to try. SO don’t read negative reports use your tastecard to reduce the cost and enjoy the best Chinese restaurant in Brighton.

I contacted and booked via the web site & it was a very efficient way. We arrived early and all the staff was pleasant, helpful and polite. We had a starter to share and it was presented well. However the spare ribs, although tasty, were very stringy and tough. The sauce with the chicken satay was the most per ulnar taste. I thought it should be a peanut sauce but the sauce was reddish in colour and had no peanut taste. It was not nice. We then had sizzling chicken satay so that was the same odd sauce.
The mushrooms in the mushroom & bamboo shoot main had a vinegar back taste and were a spongy texture. The duck pancakes were lovely though. The meal in general was disappointing and it was not good enough for us to give it a second chance.
There appeared to be a lack of basic seasoning. The food was served hot and looked nice but the overall taste let it down. If it was not for the tastecard we would have complained in the restaurant. Both my wife and I refused the desert in case that was not good. Unfortunately we both also suffered with bad stomach cramps later in the evening and during the night. Everyone has an off day but I don't think this should apply to a place where you dine out. I know all other reviews are good but the food on the night let this place down. "

"Thanks 2 all the great comments, we booked this restaurant with our Tastecard. We booked for 5.45pm prior to seeing Il Divo at the BIC. The food was amazing, service fantastic, and its only 10 mins from the BIC centre. Will definitely go back. Well worth a visit.

"Went to Gars for a meal last night and we weren't disappointed!! Despite a problem with the drains, all went smoothly and the staff made sure we seated far enough away not to be disturbed.
Beautiful layout and delicious food. The choice on the menu is really good, only problem is I wanted it all!! Had 4 lovely starters between us. Duck and pancakes were yummy and the sizzling 5 spice lamb in sweet and sour sauce was out of this world - still thinking about it today!!
Will definitely go back. This is now our favourite restaurant!!
