The Handbridge is a spacious, light & bright pub & dining venue that offers a comfortable, relaxed & convivial place to meet friends & family. With a roaring log fire in winter to toast your toes, gaze into & dream of sunnier climes whilst sipping a hot chocolate laced with rum. It’s cozy but uncluttered, traditional with a modern twist, atmospheric with a good pub feel.
To the rear there’s a covered & heated smoking area with complimentary wraps & rugs to add an extra layer for those bitter cold nights. In the summer the sun terrace is the perfect setting for morning coffee & toast before heading for the shops on a Saturday morning. The secure, lawned beer garden gets the sun all day & evening, so wile away the afternoon with a bottle of wine, bread & olives or chew the fat over a few beers to your heart’s content. The view of the beautiful St Mary’s Church that looms over adds to the tranquillity of the setting.
In short, Handbridge has all the trappings of a country pub, just 2 minutes away from the city centre. The bar is fully stocked with Casque Marque real ales, crisp lagers & an eclectic collection of bottled beers & ciders. Fine, yet affordable, wines from around the world are available including the classics, with a choice of 10 by the glass.
A wide range of sprits with options in all categories & a short but enticing cocktail list compliment the beverage offer. The regularly changing, seasonal menu, boasts fresh, honest food, made from Great British ingredients, local where possible, without any pretence.

Visiting friends in Chester, looked around to see where I could use my card, found the Hand Bridge, and was not disappointed! We had 3 courses and each dish was delicious, waiting staff were attentive and the ambience is good. Will go back next time we are visiting, our friends say they will return even without a card!

I visited yesterday evening for the 1st time with relatives. Very impressed! The service was polite yet also very personable, the food was excellent! Lovely atmosphere. We will definitely be back and will and have recommended them to friends and family. We commented at the time that the food was so good we would have paid full price without the tastecard.

"What can I say; we would go back and pay the full price. The staff were friendly and the food was great. I had smoked haddock which was cooked perfectly. My son had chick nuggets but they were fresh chicken in crumbs and chunky chips which my 7 year old adored. Give this place a go! Its 2 mins walk from the river, and free parking outside on Sunday. They also have nice cask ales.

"We have just moved to the area from London and have been scouting out all the pubs and restaurants, and I have to say the Handbridge defiantly stands out from all the others we have visited. The land lady is lovely, the staff are very friendly and helpful and you can tell the place is liked by all the locals. The food is delicious, loads to choose from, lots of bar snacks when you just fancy as nibble, I loved the chorizo stew and chunky chips with garlic mayo. The Wine is very palatable. The Handbridge is going to be one which we visit very regularly, Well done :)

"We had a meal here on Sunday, May 1st - it was absolutely delicious!!
We had tomato and red pepper soup and chicken liver parfait, and then rib eye steak with chunky chips and a side salad with parmesan. Everything was lovely, and although the chips were strictly speaking potato wedges, they were the best we'd ever tasted, definitely hand hewn and very potato-y!
The place is a sort of wine bar cum bistro, with a lovely patio out the back which would be lovely on a summers evening - it was a bit chilly when we were there.
We parked right outside, literally three steps from the front door.
If you live or are visiting Chester, you should definitely give it a go.

"We visited this delightful Pub/restaurant on Wednesday and we were welcomed to a lovely trendy decor, clean bar and stylish seating area. We were served our drinks and ordered our food. My wife and mother in law both went for the biggest plate full of gammon, egg and homemade chunky chips I've ever seen.
My father in law went for a funky goats cheese burger with mushrooms to top also with chips and for myself I splendid Monk fish wrapped in Parma ham and spring onion (also with a cheeky side order of chips). Everyone was extremely happy with our food and choose of where we went. As you can see very classy food and amazing price even better half price! I can recommend to all and I look forward to our next visit!
