If you are looking for contemporary, sleek and modern, or gastro pub style, then this is not for you.

This place is a little dated, has artexed walls and rickety old stairs, but it should make no apology for that, it is what it is, a lovely, quaint, old fashioned country manor, in a beautiful setting.

We had 3 course Sunday lunch. Starters of pate', prawn cocktail or soup. Mains beef, pork, salmon or vegetarian option. Dessert Eton mess, deep filled apple pie or profiteroles. Starters were very good. Main consisted of 2 slices of meat, carrots, green beans, 3 large roast potatoes and gravy, just enough when taking 3 courses. Desserts were excellent, particularly the Eton mess.

Service was very good, swift and polite, with no hurrying to get you out of the door after the meal.

All in all, a very pleasant lunch and at £8.50 using your taste card, excellent value for 3 courses.

    We will return.

I'm giving 5* overall as if judging against what we paid, then it is worth that. I think people forget to put that into context when revising and judge on what they expect from a 5 star restaurant. "

My husband and I 'treated' ourselves to a meal here on 29/4/15. We had eaten here before on numerous occasions as we live within walking distance but not for about 6 months. We were astonished when we were presented with the very limited menu - more like a lunchtime bar menu than a la carte. Gone were the mouth watering range of starters, bistro-style mains and elegant desserts. TheTomato and Mozzarella starter was bland with thick chunks of processed cheese which bore no resemblance to mozzarella whatsoever. In fact, it sat heavily on the stomach and was indigestible. We ordered steaks - one rare, one medium/rare (mine). When delivered, we asked the waiter which was which and he didn't understand. He went off to ask and we never saw him again. One was slightly pink in the middle so I gave it to my husband and mine was thinner and well done. It tasted like liver. The tomato garnish looked like it had exploded in the microwave. My meal was exchanged by which time my husband had finished eating. I couldn't eat the middle of the steak as it was totally raw and bloody. The salad garnish was soaked in balsamic vinegar. I won't even bother to comment on the dessert. In comparison the meal made Wetherspoons look like the Savoy Grill.. Wine was top priced. Definitely one to miss. "

  • "Very Disappointing
My friend and I went for the first time to the Court Yard restaurant after seeing that it was close to home and on the taste card scheme. When we arrived there was only a handful of people, the decor is very dated and a little musty although you can forgive that if the food and service are good, unfortunately neither were anywhere near! I don't think I've ever returned my whole meal but there's a first time for everything! I must say that although the lamb was the worst I've ever tasted but the replacement of duck was good. The service was very amateur with the young girl being friendly but got the drinks order wrong and there was only 2 to remember, it was all just a bit slow and food not great. I won't be revisiting.
