2 for 1 at Silka

The staff at Silka Restaurant would like to offer a warm welcome to all taste members. Their team of chefs are here all the way from India to serve you some of the finest and innovated dishes found across the Indian sub-continent!

Silka restaurant is conceived as a calm and soothing antidote to london’s hetic life. The design has inspired the idea of a horizontal and layered landscape with clouds hovering above. Depth is created through the back-lit wall cladding made from different exotic timbers such as Indian rosewood, ebony and mokore. The frosted frames surrounding the show kitchen and bar entrance emit a soft glow and are the main light source for the space.

One of the great things about Silka is that the menu is constantly evolving based upon Abdul Wahid and his team's fascination with Indian and oriental cuisines. If you're a regular, you know that there are a few standards that Abdul tends to rotate through the menu, but for the most part, you will be delighted to see all kinds of great dishes each time you come visit the restaurant.

You can be sure that when you eat at Silka you only get the best!

Being located in the part of London it is I expected a lot better from this restaurant.

I tried calling on numerous times throughout the day to book a table so that I could use my tastecard, but each time no one answered.
I thought I'd turn up anyway and explain that no one was answering when I tried to book, but when my wife spoke with the waiter he was very blunt and rather rude in the manner he said "no booking no discount ". I then approached the manager and although not as rude, he was still very blunt and not very helpful or understanding.
We were with other family members at the time so decided to just stay.

We were straight away presented with chutney and other condiments, as expected, but we waited an age for the poppadoms to arrive and the waiter to take our drinks order.
Our meals eventually arrived and although not the worst Indian food I've tasted, it was far from the best...onion bhajis felt quite hard and refried, while the main dishes definitely weren't fresh.
Being fairly busy, the atmosphere wasn't too bad, apart from a drunk woman behind us constantly shouting and swearing.

Would I return to this restaurant again?...NO! A good word to some this restaurant up would be 'poor'! "

" Just recently got a Taste card and was keen to use it for the first time while meeting some friends.

We chose this restaurant as it is conveniently located two minutes walk from London bridge station. (Providing you take the right exits!)

At first glance the place was tiny but cozy. They were busy taking pictures for their menu (which they really could have done when closed as it was quite a disturbance to constantly have the flash go off while photos was taken ) The staff was clearly pre-occupied with that as the service was not the best. We waited really long to get our order , was not asked again after our initial order if we would like a top up of drinks and waited 20 minutes for our bill.
Thankfully we had good company so didn't mind the wait to much. However to redo your menu on a busy Friday night ? ....probably not the best idea?

The food was average - not the best curry but by no stretch the worst. Average. But most definitely not worth the money spent.
If it was not for using my taste card , I reel to think what the bill would have come to.
The starters was very bland and small - and most definitely not worth the price paid. The main meal was average .
I was not blown away by the food, price or service.
Will not be going back and will not recommend to anyone.
There is better places to spend your money on a way better curry. "

  • "Went on a Saturday lunchtime after walk around Borough Market. Me, Mum and 8 year old daughter thoroughly enjoyed it. Lamb dhansak was superb and my daughter loved the chicken korma. All delicately spiced and tasty. Staff very attentive and friendly. What a shame that you wouldn't notice it if you were just walking by Kerry "

  • "Staff were lovely and very kindly sat us with a taste without pre-booking. Very modern, fusion cookery, freshly cooked right in front of you.  Nan bread was amazing and their home-made pickles are a great touch. Very big portions (and I'm no small eater).  They even wrapped up my leftovers to have later. A little expensive without the card but then it is London Bridge. Enjoy! Cat "

  • "07.08.09 Although empty when we arrived, Silka had a really cool, contemporary feel to it. Pappadoms and dips were great quality and waitors were happy to give us more when we ran out. Great selection of mains and all tasted fab. My apricot and lamb curry was way too hot despite checking with the waitor if it would be mild. A new one was made extremely quickly and was really tasty. Great fresh naans. Very surreal toilets. Jason "
