Albannach, set on Trafalgar Square, is a truly unique venue set in the heart of the capital and is home to an elegant ground floor restaurant and bar, an intimate mezzanine restaurant, and an exclusive private dining room.
Albannach's contemporary restaurant showcases classic British dishes with a modern and often international twist. All of the ingredients are sourced from Britain, wherever possible.
Showcasing the very best of the UK, Albannach serves an exclusive 200-strong whisky list coupled with fine wines, champagnes, and signature cocktails against a striking backdrop.
Please note: the tastecard discount is available on the a la carte menu only.
I loved this restaurant from the moment I walked in. Great decor and very impressive whiskey bar! The customer service is lovely, not too overbearing, and not too scant. The menu is delicious - I had the scallops, my friends had the haggis, and it was difficult to choose who was more jealous of whom!
The tastecard makes this an excellent deal, and I highly recommend it.

" Had a brilliant evening at Albannach recently. The service was great, both at the bar and in the restaurant. Our waiter provided friendly helpful advice and the service was quick. The food was awesome, steak cooked to perfection and the sauce to die for!
Would definitely return.

Upon arrival we had a very positive feeling as the cocktails we had were really very good. However this did change the longer the meal progressed. Overstretched and tired staff meant waiting far too long. The waiter took ages for our water, and then proceeded to pour half the bottle of wine before asking if we wanted to try it. Food, when it did arrive was good but after waiting over an hour and a half we started to get a little annoyed. We gave them the opportunity to rectify this with a single order of desert - Crannach. When this did not materialise in over half an hour we cancelled it and unfortunately had to remove the service charge. I was personally annoyed and upset as my wife had booked this for a birthday treat that sadly was far from it. Would not return.

" Lovely restaurant and the staff were very friendly. I had a problem with my steak, as it was very fatty. This was dealt with without question from the staff and complimentary cocktails were given to us as compensation. I am happily returning to this restaurant in a few weeks with friends, I would recommend it for an evening out with friends.

"Very smart and friendly restaurant. Food was lovely - so hard to choose from all the tasty dishes! Great to have such varied choice of dishes all with a Scottish twist. Went on a Monday and not very busy so pleasant place to sit and catch up with friends. Cocktail of the week only £5 so with the tastecard, all ended up being a great value evening!

"This restaurant is for those who are looking for traditional British/ Scottish dishes with an inventive twist. Although it is located at the corner of Trafalgar Square, this place is surprisingly not an over-priced for-tourist-only place. In fact, the chef takes the menu seriously. The sea food ingredients are fresh; try the seared scallops and you know what I'm talking about. This place has been my default option for introducing British/ Scottish dishes to my foodie visitors. But make sure you ask for a table that is far away from the bar. The after-work crowd could be a major distraction for a pleasant conversation over dinner.

"We had a lovely meal here, the food was delicious and we really liked the decor of the restaurant. It took a while to get served but the staff were very friendly and apologetic. The haggis was delicious as was the cranachan! I'd definitely go here again.

"We had a great time at Albannach last night. The food was very high quality, and an amazingly good price using the tastecard. The atmosphere was fun and friendly and the service good. Drinks are quite pricey, but this is to be expected at a nice venue on Trafalgar Square.

"A wonderful late Saturday lunch and they let me use my tastecard. All of the staff were very friendly, attentive and very knowledgeable about the whisky. The price is high, even with the tastecard, however, for a special meal with excellent food, wine and whisky, it was well worth it. If you like a peaty whisky, try the Ardbeg, it is heaven!

"Cheerful, accommodating staff made this a great late dinner. Lamb was gorgeous, and though the portions are hardly overwhelming - and the prices a bit steep if you pay full whack - with a tastecard this is a perfect end to a night.

"I generally stay away from "posh" restaurants as in the past I have been to a few where the style takes first place and the food a poor second.
However, at the Albannach the standard of ,food and service are all exceptionally high. The decor is amazing and view from the windows across Trafalger Square is amazing.
I opted for haggis with neeps and tatties.(if you have not eaten haggis before, its like mince meat only more savoury and with a richer texture) and a side salad.
I asked the waiter to recommend a wine, and I had glass of their house red wine-I forget the name but it had Cabernet Sauvignon in it and it went excellently with the richness of the haggis.
Not having a starter (though the smoked haddock soup sounded very tempting), I had room left for a dessert.
I choose cranachan as it sounded very Scottish and though the description on the menu was a bit vague, it was a delicious combination of stewed berries (blackberries, raspberries, and red currants) topped with honey roasted oatflakes and cream.
Fantastic! I'll definately visit again, perhaps with the folks.

"Ate here last April for my birthday. Food was lovely, discount was even lovelier. Service was ok, staff were a little standoffish and didn't seem to understand the concept of 'we have to be at the theatre in 10 minutes, please bring us the bill at the same time as dessert and we will settle up nice and quickly for you'. I had a cocktail and it was delicious and lethal. Not exactly traditional fare (strawberries don't belong in cranachan and never will) but very very tasty none the less. I'd definitely go back.

"Went yesterday for lunch. Loved the modern decor. Looks like it would be a lively place for a night out at the weekend. Ate on the mezzanine floor overlooking the bar. Friendly and efficient staff but no scottish accent to be heard (stupid I know, but I was a little disappointed).
The food, yes pricey if paying full price (it is central London you know, and isn't that why we all bought taste cards, to go to places we would never normally consider due to cost?!), but a bargain with the card.
We had scallops and carpaccio for starters, and for main both had filet mignon (right posh we were). For dessert we shared a creme brulee and a chocolate tarte- delicious! Can't fault the food. Everything was beautifully cooked and presented and I thought portion size was just right.
We saved almost £50! Albannach is definately worth a visit.

"4 of us went there on Thursday night. The food portions are tiny for certain dishes (lamb for instance) and outrageously expensive at £18.50, so you have to have sides.
The tip is added calculated the full price before the discount, and although it's "optional" we gave him £1.20 less (as we didn't have anymore cash on us) and the waiter asked for the full tip, so we had to process the transaction on cards.
The website menu is not updated so a different menu operates in the restaurant. It's a nice posh looking restaurant, but there is a lot of space for improvement as far as I'm concerned.

"I visited the Albannach on 20th May 09. We had a table booked for 4 people.
On arrival we were greeted and shown to our table upstairs. We were impressed with the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant. We all made our orders and were very pleased with the selections.
If you order the meat dishes you have to order veg side dishes separately.
The only niggle we had with the Albannach was we found the service on the slow side, to order drinks and food we felt we were kept waiting for long periods of time. The restaurant wasnt
The food is highly priced (e.g. £24 Fillet steak - £6 All Desserts) but thats what the taste London card is for! We saved 45+

"I don't normally write reviews but having been to Albannach I had to say something.. It was just fantastic!
I don't go much on all things Scottish but I'm converted now! I had haggis for the first time which was simply delicious and would recommend anyone to try it. What really impressed me was their whisky selection and the very knowledgable bar man, who by the way was Scottish! Hurray a genuine place!
It's a place I sure to frequent again and thank my friend for his recommendation!

"What a truly fabulous venue. From the moment we walked in it really had that 'wow' factor; the chandelier is particularly impressive. You'd expect it to be full of tourists too, but it was actually full of regular customers ~ always a good sign in such a touristy place. The food and service were good too. My only gripe would be the prices, but with the taste card it was reasonable enough. We'll be going backJane H

"The best thing about Albannach is the athmosphere but I suppose this is the least you can expect given the steep price tag. The food was good but not great, however, we missed the Scottish elements. I strongly advice to order some side dishes as the vegetables on the mains come in microscopic portions. Staff were trying hard but this couldn't make up for the lack of training.Angela K

"I called and booked that afternoon. The person I spoke to was very friendly and helpful. The menu looked great. Expensive without the card, but great. The tables were nicely presented and the chairs were very nice. The staff were friendly. The card is valid here all week. The restaurant offers 50% off, so it good to take a group to. One of my friends hit the nail on the head. It looked like a great place to go for lunch. If you do decide to go there for dinner on a busy night, ask for a table at the back of the restaurant.Paul Gough

Based upon feedback from our members we have decided to implement a review facility on the tastecard website. This is a great opportunity for you to share your experiences, both good and bad, with other members. Please familiarise yourselves with the below rules for placing reviews:
Whilst we will not modify your review, we will monitor all reviews. As tastecard is a co-operative with our restaurants, if a restaurant objects to a review we will remove it. Whilst this gives the restaurants the opportunity to remove any negative reviews, we will make it very clear to them that a balance of reviews will be relied upon and trusted more by our members and likely lead to more bookings for the restaurants. It is a fine balancing act between publishing as many reviews as possible and losing popular restaurants as a result of negative reviews.
Nothing libellous will be published
No profanity, threats, prejudiced comments, hate speech, sexually explicit language or other non-family-friendly content
Reviews must be based on the diner’s experience, not second-hand information or hearsay
Reviews written by ownership or management posing as guests will not be accepted. Current or past employees or anyone associated or related to employees of an establishment listed on our site are not allowed to post reviews
Please refrain from using personally insulting language, attempting a smear campaign or posting content that is irrelevant and unhelpful to other members
Questions or comments directed to or about tastecard staff or other tastecard members will not be posted
Commercial e-mail addresses and contact information are not allowed in reviews, nor is promotional material of any kind
Based upon feedback from our members we have decided to implement a review facility on the tastecard website. This is a great opportunity for members to share their experiences, both good and bad, with other members. We believe that this is also a fantastic opportunity for our restaurants to assess feedback, and if necessary make improvements and take feedback on-board.
Previously, if members wished to review a restaurant they were likely to visit another website to do so. This may have meant that the reviews were less accessible to yourselves, as restaurateurs, and thus you would have been less likely to act upon the review, be it good or bad. By offering the review service on our site we believe that restaurants will benefit from having feedback from our members in one place.
If you object to a review on our site, we will remove it. However, our research has indicated that members are far more likely to visit a restaurant if there are a number of balanced reviews than if all reviews are positive. Please bear this in mind when reading the reviews; if a restaurant only has great reviews then our members are far less likely to trust the reviews and thus are likely to dine elsewhere.
