Decided to book and pop round with the missus on a Saturday (as we all know, a lot of restaurants don't take tastecards on a weekend).
Wasn't expecting much, it's a pub after all, but you know what? For a local pub, it's serves pretty decent nosh! There was a Halloween theme going on, on the night so lots of people were there plus a DJ, everyone was merry, but I guess the music was a tad loud during our meal but hey, can't imagine that happening EVERY night.
Ordered the black pudding and garlic bread for starters, battered and deep fried black pudding - must admit haven't had that before in that way but hey it works lol for mains we had the mixed grill and homemade cheese burger. FYI, pretty much everything is homemade, the chips, to the beef patty, the coleslaw etc so i appreciated those sort of touches. The only word of warning is the portions are MASSIVE! Heaps load of chips and salad; I certainly would reconsider not having a starter if I headed back there again!

the meal was home cooked from the crust on the pies to the chips, the veg was fresh and this perfect meal made our evening.
The wife asked to take half home as the portion is man size, the staff
placed it in a tray, so she could enjoy this delight the next day.
well worth it, a must try, and a lit fire, welcoming and I will now be
making the journey on a regular basis, as the food was outstanding

Where have all the fire side traditional pubs gone? Look no further. Carlton offers a great good value meal. Went here last night as a trip down my husband’s memory lane. He lived in Carlton as a boy, so we went to the Unicorn for a meal.
Fantastic, great steak and homemade chips, I was in heaven. My husband had a burger and the ample portion went down a treat.
Well done and definitely coming back!

The food is clearly very fresh and cooked with care yet is very well priced even without a taste card! Everything on my plate was as I would like. The log fires were welcome on what was a cold day. We will be returning.

"Wonderful to find a place with guaranteed good food. This was the second time we'd been back and had another superb meal. The very friendly manager is certainly a credit to it, and the big portions of food tasted great and apparently was just the assistant chef!
Shall definitely go back again soon!
