My wife and use our Tastecard very frequently as we have restaurants local to home which we visit but we also travel around the country on 2 & 3-day breaks so our card is invaluable so we have, possibly, become a little blasé about dining out and thus I am not moved to write reviews unless we have visited somewhere exceptionally good or bad and the General Havelock is decidedly the former. We dined there last night at the beginning of our short break in Northumberland and we couldn't have had a better start. the food was excellent, good range of beers (including Real Ales) and wines and great, friendly service. I would commend this Inn to anyone finding themselves in or near Haydon Bridge/Hexham. The Crayfish Cocktail starter was an interesting twist on the good old Prawn Cocktail, the 'Catch of the Day' was Tuna and was cooked to perfection; of the 'Bread & Butter Pudding I could not find words to adequately describe so will venture no more than to say HAVE IT, even having to forgo the White Chocolate and Raspberry Creme Brulée to so do. Should I ever find myself hereabouts again this will be first on my list of priorities. I am so glad that I have a Tastecard and that the General Havelock is in because otherwise we would never have encountered each other.
