My 5 friends and I have had fantastic experiences in hotel restaurants with my tastecard - restaurants that otherwise, we would never think to go, this has been our least favourite.
There was limited availabitlity from the starter menu, on a Saturday, which we were not informed of as we sat down and our main meal portion sizes were not partiuarly big. The desserts were also quite disappointing.
I have eaten in Thistle St Albans and had a wonderful experience but I would not have been happy paying full price for this particular meal.
After ordering starters our waiter came back to us to tell us many were unavailable, after re-ordering he came back (again!) to tell us only 2 were available from the 8-10 that were on the menu (prawn cocktail and soup!) This was a disappointing start to the meal, as this was a Saturday - you think they would have stocked up!
One staff member helping to serve our meals had very limited English, and when asking him which steak was which (we had ordered 2, cooked differently) all he could tell us was that they were steaks, and not how they were cooked - he did not understand what we were asking. They had in fact been plated up wrong which they discovered after digging in. The chip and mushroom portions were tiny. While we enjoyed the majority of our dinners they were not particularly filling.
The puddings were okay - however one came out still in its plastic packaging, and the Creme Caramel looked like it had come out of a value 4 pack from Tesco...
I have eaten in Thistle St. Albans, and had a brilliant meal - however I would not recommend this branch, especially if paying full price.
