My partner and I made and our first (and probably last) visit to The Light on a Friday evening. We had a 6:30 reservation prior to going to a gig later. The bar was very busy, the restaurant was virtually empty.
The menu sounds quite impressive and the prices lead you to believe you're in for a top quality meal. Unfortunately the reality is somewhat different!
The scallops (plural) I ordered for a starter turned out to be a scallop (singular) sliced to give the impression of several scallops. At £8.50 this is nothing short of a rip off! The sauce was virtually tasteless.
The mains we ordered were also very bland and very expensive. I wouldn't mind paying £17 for a haddock and spaghetti dish if it turns out to be delicious. It wasn't. Thankfully we were only paying 50% and using the tastecard couldn't have been simpler.
The waitress actually asked us if we had any discount cards, which says it all really. The Light blatantly inflates their prices on the understanding that customers will only pay 50%. Even then the food was not value for money.
This is one of the poorest meals I have had in London since moving here 4 years ago. By all means, pop in for a drink, but please eat elsewhere! "

No problem using my tastecard here had a lovely meal here on Friday night. The quality of the food was amazing, we were served by a really friendly lady who let us know that the tastecard applied to everything on the a la carte menu, not to the set menu - this was only two options and the a la carte menu options looked better. I have heard good things about the puddings, but we were too full by then. Good, relaxed atmosphere - really busy bar on the way in, but restaurant was quieter. Will definitely go back soon.

"My friends and I went yesterday evening. The atmosphere was nice even though a little quiet (not unsurprising for a Tuesday evening).
The duck and the fish were really tasty, the presentation very refined and the building quite impressive.
I would advise not to take any side though as there is already plenty to eat on the plate and the chips are a bit greasy.
Very good value for money, we were 4, got a bill of about £50 including service. I would definitely go back there if I am in the area at dinner time, but not without my tastecard!

It was quite when we first arrived which made me wonder, but we were early for a Friday night and within no time of sitting down the place filled up. It comes of no surprise considering how good the food is. It is up in my top 3 places to eat in London so far, I can say that without hesitation. Everything from the food, to the staff and environment is top notch!
I had a 2 course meal with drinks and the price was incredible with my tastecard. The Veggie Shepherd's Pie is a great choice for a main course.

Triple cooked chips in beef dripping were incredible; Corn fed chicken was really tasty especially the wild mushrooms and the osso bucco ragu on polenta starter were incredible! The unusual sorbet selection (blood orange, pomegranate and raspberry) rounded off a delicious meal! Well worth a visit, looking forward to next visit! x

"Visited The Light Bar a few weeks back on a date on a Saturday night and I'm still talking about it (the food, not the date).
I had the scallops to start and he had the carrot soup. For mains I had the pork fillet and he had the lamb shank. We both had the steamed market veg as a side order. For dessert I had the dark chocolate tart (yum!) and he had the rhubarb and apple crumble (we had to ask for the custard as they had forgotten to bring it).
I had a mojito to drink and he had a glass of red wine. The food was absolutely delicious- I loved every course, and, apart from forgetting the custard, the service was great.
I was drawn to The Light Bar because of the "architecturally impressive" quote, and I wasn't disappointed. It is an impressive restaurant.
Our table was booked for 6.30pm, opening time, so there wasn't the great atmosphere stated in other feedback. Next time I'd go a bit later in the evening.
Thoroughly recommend this restaurant. Can't wait to go again.

The wild mushroom and polenta terrine is very moorish. The steak was perfectly cooked and all the food was well presented. Extensive wine list and cocktail menu. Dark chocolate tart was rich and bitter, delicious. We then moved thorough to the bar to indulge in some dancing.
A wonderful evening, will definately go back.

My friend had the Papardelle with duck which was also very sweet and tasted fantastic. Great atmosphere and cozy inside, and lively outside for that extra cocktail. Waitress was very attentive and friendly. Would definitely come back for dinner again. Oh, and the cheese cake was the icing on the cake!

The food was superb - the poussin main course and vanilla cheesecake especially so (both really tasty - the black pudding with the poussin was a great combination, and the raspberry coulis with the cheesecake was delicious without being too tart). Our waitress was lovely - she had some good recommendations for our main courses (that swayed some of our choices for the better) and was attentive throughout. Highly recommended!
