Situated on the banks of the River Thames by Maidenhead Bridge, the charming Edwardian building of The Thames Riviera Hotel provides the gateway to Maidenhead, just half a mile away. The Hotel is a 30-minute train journey from London Paddington and a 20-minute drive from Heathrow. Local attractions include Windsor Castle, Legoland, Ascot and Windsor Racecourses and the towns of Henley and Marlow.

The Blue River Café offers a relaxed and informal ambience with a delightful riverside location. Here you can savour the beautiful surroundings, while enjoying a choice of fabulous food and great service.

Why not unwind on the riverside terrace, and enjoy views of the Maidenhead Bridge, or just watch the water, boats and world drift by?

The Blue River Café has a wide-ranging, freshly-prepared menu to suit most tastes and food is available all day, from breakfast through to late evening. The daily and à la carte menus are predominantly ‘English Modern’ cuisine and whenever possible based around seasonal ingredients.

Maximum 1 card per party. Parties may not be split to use additional tastecard memberships.

Important Information

Please note: The tastecard offer is not available on Bank Holidays or Celebration Day’s including Valentine’s Day, Mothering Sunday, Father’s Day or Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve & New Years Day.The offer is not available on Sundays if the restaurant serves a set menu, therefore please call the restaurant to check to avoid any disappointment. The tastecard discount is available on the a la carte menu only and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer including set menus, carvery, specials etc or with the Privilege Plus card. Bookings must be made at least an hour in advance. Failure to book in advance and mention that you have a tastecard will render the discount invalid. Evening bookings are subject to availability as the restaurant is extremely busy.

Sat down at 7.40 and meals didn't arrive until after 9.15pm!!. With no one apologising for the delay or even letting us know there would be. People were fed up with the wait and therefore didn't order dessert and instead had coffee. Again this took far to long to arrive with people having to leave having not drunk their coffee due to taxis arriving to take them home. Food wasn't that tasty either. I'm glad we had the testcard discount as I would have been upset having to pay full price "

Had our first course there - a platter to share which was very nice and tasty. By this stage we were so hot we asked to move outside-no problem. Our main courses were a great disappointment. I had the ribs with chips - the ribs were so overcooked could not find any meat to eat off them, my son had Paella which heleft most of because of lack of flavour. The other two eat their mains with not too many moans, fair enough. The cafe did remove the Paella from the bill but still, after using tastecard it still came to around the £50 mark (dread to think how much without card). If we had to pay full prices for these dishes we would have made a big fuss. We have better quality meals in our small local restaurants in Bournemouth. Never again I am afraid. Amazing how reviews for one place can differ so. "

We went on a Sunday evening expecting it to be quiet but it was packed as they had a Karaoke night in the bar. We were given what I would rate as one of the best tables in the restaurant overlooking the river. The service was a bit slow and the staff were welcoming. The food was very nice but we had a problem with one dish which we asked to be cooked a little more as it was too rare and within 15mins they made a new dish completely and as the rest of us had finished our main courses by the time they came back the problem meal was removed from the bill courtesy of the manager. The restaurant manager was very attentive and excellent service was received from him. Overall a good experience and yes we will return. "

To be honest, should have had 2 free meals!! Shockingly bad service, cold micro waved meal, when I asked for it to be reheated it would have melted granite!! Sincerely, I would recommend other places close by who will take your tastecard, (Dorney), or pay the full price at a non participating restaurant a stone’s throw away on the river by the lock and pay about the same discounted price for a far better meal! I won’t return and sadly, as a local, and regularly asked where I might recommend, I really wouldn't recommend Blue River. They just fail to deliver. Lobbying the other lock restaurant now to join taste!!! "

    Bear in mind this restaurant is part of a hotel they should be used to catering a busy restaurant: we went when the restaurant didn't appear overly busy. Sat down at 7.40 and meals didn't arrive until after 9.15pm!!. With no one apologising for the delay or even letting us know there would be. People were fed up with the wait and therefore didn't order dessert and instead had coffee. Again this took far to long to arrive with people having to leave having not drunk their coffee due to taxis arriving to take them home. Food wasn't that tasty either. I'm glad we had the testcard discount as I would have been upset having to pay full price "

    Booked here for our son's birthday meal. Were seated by three windows which we tried to open as it was so hot, could not open one, the other two only opened partially. Had our first course there - a platter to share which was very nice and tasty. By this stage we were so hot we asked to move outside-no problem. Our main courses were a great disappointment. I had the ribs with chips - the ribs were so overcooked could not find any meat to eat off them, my son had Paella which heleft most of because of lack of flavour. The other two eat their mains with not too many moans, fair enough. The cafe did remove the Paella from the bill but still, after using tastecard it still came to around the £50 mark (dread to think how much without card). If we had to pay full prices for these dishes we would have made a big fuss. We have better quality meals in our small local restaurants in Bournemouth. Never again I am afraid. Amazing how reviews for one place can differ so. "

    Overall a nice dining experience. Blue River Cafe is a place I have wanted to try for a long time but never got around to it. We went on a Sunday evening expecting it to be quiet but it was packed as they had a Karaoke night in the bar. We were given what I would rate as one of the best tables in the restaurant overlooking the river. The service was a bit slow and the staff were welcoming. The food was very nice but we had a problem with one dish which we asked to be cooked a little more as it was too rare and within 15mins they made a new dish completely and as the rest of us had finished our main courses by the time they came back the problem meal was removed from the bill courtesy of the manager. The restaurant manager was very attentive and excellent service was received from him. Overall a good experience and yes we will return. "

    As a local, Blue River was OK to drop into for a drink but bar service is always slow. Gave the restaurant a few tries and thought my tastecard would soften the slow service. To be honest, should have had 2 free meals!! Shockingly bad service, cold micro waved meal, when I asked for it to be reheated it would have melted granite!! Sincerely, I would recommend other places close by who will take your tastecard, (Dorney), or pay the full price at a non participating restaurant a stone’s throw away on the river by the lock and pay about the same discounted price for a far better meal! I won’t return and sadly, as a local, and regularly asked where I might recommend, I really wouldn't recommend Blue River. They just fail to deliver. Lobbying the other lock restaurant now to join taste!!! "
